The Qantas Spirit of Youth Awards (SOYA365), the leading initiative for Australia’s best emerging artists, designers, and creatives, has today announced Michael Lo Sordo as the 2012 recipient of the SOYA365 Fashion category award.
Many talented Australian designers submitted their work into the fashion category this year, vying for a chance to win the prestigious title as well as $5000 in cash, and a rare 12-month mentorship opportunity with leading fashion luminaries Nicky and Simone Zimmermann. This year, the fashion winner will also be sent on a trip-of-a-lifetime to London Fashion Week to attend a catwalk show and have access to some of the world’s heralded fashion figures and brands.
Michael is one of only eight talented designers to have won the award, with SOYA365 providing these fashion designers the chance to grow their fan bases, brand awareness, stockists and reputations. Having shown at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week for four consecutive years, Michael has established himself one of Australia’s most exciting up and coming designers. He joins previous winners Dion Lee, Romance Was Born, Antipod!um and Friedrich Gray who are now household names thanks to SOYA365.
“I am incredibly honoured and excited to have won this prestigious award. I know that the mentoring from Nicky and Simone as well as the experience I have in London are invaluable to the growth of my label. What a great way to start 2012!” said Michael Lo Sordo.
