Angelina Jolie added some serious star power to the 3rd Annual Women in the World Summit with designer Diane Von Furstenberg, Meryl Streep and Hillary Clinton among others at the Lincoln Center in New York. Dita Von Teese brought some old Hollywood, Down Under as she unveiled her Von Follies collection for Target at the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival.
The Third Annual Women in the World Summit conference at NYC’s Lincoln Center was held on International Women’s Day in the US, and Angelina Jolie attended the formalities to participate in the three-day conference.
Jolie was among the impressive group of speakers, including dignitaries such as Madeleine Albright and Hillary Clinton, designer Diane von Furstenberg as well as Oscar winning actress Meryl Streep.
During her time onstage, Angelina addressed the audience by telling the story of an obstetrician named Dr. Hawa Abdi, who runs a life-saving medical camp in Somalia which is now being overrun by militants. Jolie praisefully said that Dr. Abdi’s story “illuminates the nightmare of tens of millions around the world the internally displaced and the ones homeless within their homelands.”
The inspirational leaders are gathering in the Big Apple to discuss a range of topics that include foreign issues, the global economic crisis, and other urgent challenges facing women around the globe.
Dita Von Teese greeted enthusiatic shoppers at Melbourne’s Chapel Street Target store to unveil The Von Follies lingerie range.
The brand was unveiled by the burlesque model as part of the annual Melbourne Fashion Festival. Dita wore a Sonia Rykiel purple dress and Christian Louboutin heels and was accompanied by three models all dressed in selections from her 40s inspired range.
She said, ”I’ve never said in my life, ‘I’m just going to slip into something more comfortable. ‘I’m always ready, I’ve never been caught wearing mismatched underwear in my life.”
The full Von Follies range features 26 different pieces in total, including balconette bras, high-cut briefs, G-strings, garters, bustiers and fitted leopard print corsolettes, with black lace trim.
Dita has previously said, ”There are so many vintage lingerie pieces I love that I haven’t been able to find in all my years of collecting. ‘I wanted to design pieces that are tributes to my vintage obsessions, to make them beautiful and functional, while modernising them for everyday wear. ‘It’s something that has been quite a task to create, but the end result is so chic, and so unique, I’m very proud of it. It’s a statement piece meant to be seen.”
