Although Fair Park in Dallas, Texas may seem the location least likely, it proved to be a spectacular home for this year’s Chanel Métiers d’Art Show — the pre-fall showing for which Karl Lagerfeld chooses a different location each year.
Of this year’s choice, Chanel’s president of fashion Bruno Pavlovsky told Vogue, “[Lagerfeld] chooses themes linked to cities that inspire him and are consistent with the brand. They generally have strong ties to Mademoiselle Chanel’s life and inspiration, like London, Moscow, Shanghai, Byzance and Scotland where we held the last Métiers d’Art show Paris-Edimbourg. All of these places represented something to Mademoiselle Chanel — America, and notably Dallas, are part of our history, the American championed and supported Mademoiselle Chanel in the Fifties. They played a large part in putting Gabrielle Chanel back at the forefront of international fashion.”
During the show no Western-themed stone went unturned with models dressed in cowboy hats, a full 50s drive-in movie theatre was set up to air Lagerfeld’s 20-minute film’ The Return’, mechanical bulls featured, and cherry lime-aid cocktails being served. Even the front-row celebs, like Alexa Chung, Kirsten Stewart, and Dakota Fanning, were dressed to theme.
After the show, it was been revealed that Kirsten Stewart will be the face of the collection to be released in May 2014. This is a huge coup for the 23-year-old star, especially considering the campaign will be shot by Karl Lagerfeld himself. We can’t wait to see the fruits of this partnership.
The show was yet another display that Karl Lagerfeld, and Chanel, can truly do no wrong. Watch the complete show, behind-the-scenes video and an interview with Karl Lagerfeld below…
