Gone are the days of ripped leggings and ‘grunge chic’ fashion- or so we hope. Recently fashion has taken a welcomed turn to the past, with ultra feminine and lady like style.
After many seasons of ripped clothing, and androgynous clothes, some of our favourite celebs are leading the way with a new feminine style that nods to past decades of opulence and refined beauty. Style queen Sienna Miller, who is most well known for her signature boho style, is surprisingly leading this new ladylike fad into the future. Sienna now chooses more sophisticated pieces, like high waisted skirts and soft blouses.
Leading the trend in Australia is Kylie Minogue who is hitting hard with her feminine style at the moment. The recent Louis Vuitton ads are also forcing this trend into our wardrobes, as models Christy Turlington, Natalia Vodianova, and Karen Elson pose in stunningly sophisticated clothes that remind us of the style in Mad Men, or decades long past.
Whilst we love this new take on modern femininity, for those of us who have gone wild on loose fitted dresses, drop pants and ripped denim, it can be hard to work the new lady like trend into our wardrobes.
How to get the look
First off, dig through your old clothes and hunt down your old favourites.- think anything with lace, pearls or soft florals. If you are a fan of vintage, the new feminine trend will suit you to a tee, as you can scour op shops, or even your grandma’s closest for some perfectly sophisticated old world glamour.
The key pieces to work this trend right are simple and quite basic. Choose elegant heels that are not too high, and not too detailed. Pair these with a high waisted pencil skirt, or opt for a pleated skirt that will add feminine volume to your hips. (remember to always cinch in the waist!)
Next, choose a soft blouse, or lace cami in a nude or neutral tone. Wear your hair up in a modern loose bun, or a sleek ponytail with loose curls. The key to making this look oh so femme, is through accessories. Pearls are a no brainer that will have you feeling like Audrey Hepburn, whilst ¾ length gloves add that wanted glamour that the Louis Vuitton ads boast. Throw on a stunning cocktail ring and you are set!
Working the lady like trend is really quite simple, and as this style is reinventing itself, it makes us aware that we should never throw out quality clothing. So ladies, hold onto your lace and pearls, you never know when it will come back into style!
