Elle Magazine held their annual Women in Hollywood event, honouring nine women. We check out which stars were celebrated and which fellow guest they all attributed their inspiration to.
Viola Davis had a special announcement at the Elle magazine awards, read on to find out all the details.
The latest PETA campaign stars the stunning Laura Vandervoort, watch an interview with the star below.
Women in Hollywood
Jennifer Aniston turned heads at Elle’s 18th Annual Women in Hollywood Tribute in Beverly Hills. The star wowed her fellow honourees in a plunging silver mini dress. She caught up with her once on-screen Friends sister Reese Witherspoon who spoke of her loving for Aniston, joking, “You just want to get your nails done with her and you want to make out with her all at the same time. At least I do. And that’s what we do sometimes on Saurdays.”
Other honourees included Michelle Pfeiffer, Freida Pinto, Evan Rachel Wood, Viola Davis, Naomi Watts and Barbra Streisand. 69-year-old Steisand was credited as being an inspiration by almost every star in the room. Aniston said she loved her while ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ star Pinto told her, “You’re a legend not only in Hollywood but literally all over the world. I can say that because I come from India,’ going on to say that Streisand’s ‘Putting it Together’ is, “like a reality check that every girl that wants to get into this big entertainment industry needs to listen to.”
In response, Streisand stressed that her colleagues needed to be fearless in moving forward in entertainment, saying only seven percent of the top 250 films were directed by women and that they should, “be bold and don’t wait for the phone to ring. Create your own material. Tell me a story.”
Viola Davis Adopts
While being honoured at the Elle Women in Hollywood awards, The Help star Viola Davis told the world she and her husband, actor Julius Tennon, had adopted a daughter.
The news was released when Octavia Spencer, Davis’ The Help co-star, said in her speech honouring her friend that Davis became a mum, “like, two days ago.”
The 46-year-old, who is pegged for an Academy Award, later confirmed the news in her acceptance speech. The baby girl’s name is Genesis is Davis’ first child.
Laura Vandervoort for PETA
PETA are known for their edgy campaigns and their latest is, we think, one of their best. It stars Smallville’s Laura Vandervoort who appears completely nude aside from scaled body paint. She poses on top of a rock in a blazing desert as if she were a lizard.
The campaign, titled ‘Whose Skin Are You In? Leave Wildlife Out of Your Wardrobe’, draws attention to the use of reptiles skin in the production of fashion accessories such as handbags and shoes.
The fabulous Glenn Nutley was in charge of hair and makeup for the shoot, bringing out the blonde beauty’s best features.
