The recent advertisements for Marc Jacobs ‘Oh Lola’ caused a bit of a stir when they were launched but in the UK the scandal has escalated and the ad has been banned.
H&M’s hugely anticipated collaboration with Versace was launched in New York this week to a bevy of stars and fashion elite.
And in the world of the royals, it has been revealed who will be creating uniforms for Kensington Palace’s front of house team at Kate Middleton and Prince William’s new abode.
Marc Jacobs ‘Oh Lola’ Advertisement Banned
The British Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has banned a recently released advertisement for Marc Jacobs’ new fragrance ‘Oh Lola’ for appearing to, “sexualise a child.”
Featuring 17-year-old Dakota Fanning sitting on the floor wearing a pale-coloured thigh-length dress and holding an Oh Lola perfume bottle between her thighs, the advertisement was deemed inappropriate and has been completely slammed.
In a public statement the ASA said, “We noted that the model was holding up the perfume bottle which rested in her lap between her legs and we considered that its position was sexually provocative. We understood the model was 17 years old but we considered she looked under the age of 16. We considered that the length of her dress, her leg and position of the perfume bottle drew attention to her sexuality. Because of that, along with her appearance, we considered the ad could be seen to sexualise a child.”
Marc Jacobs said he chose Fanning as a, “contemporary Lolita.” after being inspired by her appearance as a 15-year-old punk rock singer in the film, ‘The Runaways.’
Global fragrance giants Coty have responded by saying they have not received complaints and did not think the styling suggested the model was underage.
Versace for H&M Launch
Although the line doesn’t actually hit stores until November 19, celebrities such as Emma Roberts, Jessica Alba, Blake Lively, Nicki Minaj and Debbie Harry made their way to New York’s Pier 57 this week for the launch of Versace for H&M. The incredible event featured a mirror-walled cocktail lounge, a wood panelled runway and an impressive black carpet entrance.
After a runway show featuring the 90’s themed looks from the collection, Nicki Minaj took the stage to perform a hugely energetic set for the A-list crowd. A red suited Prince followed, performing to an energetic crowd and closing an incredible set with ‘Purple Rain’.
Donatella Versace has admitted she was originally approached to design the collection over two years ago and that it almost didn’t happen but, given the incredible response from celebs on the night, we’re all pretty glad it did!
The Royal Uniform
Ever wished you got to wear designer gear to work? Maybe you should consider being a career as one of Kensington Palace’s front-of-house team!
British Fashion Council chairman Harold Tillman’s brand Jaegar will be responsive for creating the uniforms for Kate and Will’s front of house team. Stuart Stockdate, the retailer’s creative director, has taken inspiration from the Palace’s Royal Ceremonial Dress Collection and designed a red double-breasted blazer and black, slim cut trousers for the crew.
Jaegar is one of the original British heritage brands, having been established in 1884. The brand has strong links with the palace and even photographed their autumn/winter 2011 campaign at the gates of what was the former home of Princess Diana.
The uniforms will be unveiled in March next year after the new renovations to Kensington Palace are completed.
