The sharp shoulder look has been quickly snapped up by the fashion pack. From a small shoulder pad aka 80’s inspired style, to shoulders that reach architectural heights, this look is being seen everywhere from mainstream labels to haute couture.
But is this look for everyone? Whilst the sharp shoulder is adored by many fashionistas, it is a look that can be difficult to style and suit to your height. If you want to try out the trend but are yet to splash out on a strong structured blazer or tee, opt for a small shoulder pad to begin with to add that little bit of extra height without leaving your comfort zone.
Which sharp shoulder should you choose?
If you are already tall, it’s a good option to stick to a smaller round shoulder rather than a sharp triangular cut. Alternatively look for pieces that feature rectangular cuts with heavy embellishment for a touch of difference without the unnecessary added height. If you have a shorter frame and want to add some extra height, you can play around with a range of sharp shoulder cuts, and add definition to any outfit.
If the shoulder pad just isn’t enough, go all the way with a triangular sharp shoulder that gives you extra height and a confident, powerful look. There is a great range of sharp shoulder pieces out at the moment, from blazers to tees and body con dresses. But where should you look to find the perfect style for you?
Where to shop for the sharp shoulder trend
For a range of cheap yet chic pieces, head to chain stores like Dotti or Sportsgirl. Dotti have a lower price range of jackets featuring strong and stylish shoulders, while Sportsgirl feature the sharp shoulder in their blazers and long sleeve ruffle tees. Look to brands like Willow for structured dresses featuring towering sharp shoulders for a unique show stopping look.
If you are still undecided about whether to dare wear such a strong attention grabbing shoulder, be assured there are a number of ways to style different heights and pieces. For a smaller shoulder pad, or small triangular shoulder cut, opt for a long sleeve knit, or a capped sleeved body con dress. If you want that extra height and love the look of the sky scraper shoulders, opt for a chic blazer, and pair with skinny jeans or a mini skirt and tights. It’s the hottest trend this Winter so jump on board!
