As we were recently trawling through pics of our current fave celebs (think Kate Middleton, Blake Lively and Kim Kardashian); we noticed one thing in common – they were ALL sporting big and bouncy hair. Tumbling waves rolling down their backs, that just screamed sophisticated glamour.
Rescu. chatted to the 2 winning hair specialists (Frank Apostolopoulos and Hilda Santalucia) from the BIBA, both of whom have been winners of ‘Hairdresser Of The Year’ awards, on achieving this hot and highly sought after look.
RESCU: What is the best cut for long fine hair to achieve big bouncy waves?
Frank Apostolopoulos: A cut with minimal layers so the hair remains weighty and full. Forward graduation is bringing all the hair forward and cutting the hair to frame the face and will help bring bounce to the hair once its been blow waved or set.
Hilda Santalucia: Keep the length blunt to ensure the ends look healthy and thick. The layers work best around the jaw area and softly blended towards the ends. Also, add a few not-so-obvious layers through the very top to add some lift. Less is more when it comes to layering fine hair!
RESCU: What products can be applied to achieve this look?
Frank Apostolopoulos: The best products to achieve this look are ‘Wella SP DELICATE VOLUME’ before blowdrying and ‘Wella SP PerfectHold’ to finish and hold the waves for the remainder of the day.
Hilda Santalucia: Firstly add a mousse or liquid spray to the roots and invest in a good styling iron. Dry the hair with a dryer and round brush in large sections creating lift at the roots. Then take sections again and turn the irons through the mid-lengths and ends to create a soft wave. For a big bouncy blow-dry simply visit your hairdresser, it takes skill and some things are best left to the experts!
RESCU: Are there any colour techniques that look best with this style?
Frank Apostolopoulos: ?Always to stay with monochome rich shades to really bring out the fullness in hair and provide incredible shine.
Hilda Santalucia: Colour is very important when achieveing texture and visual thickness to hair, and creating an even colour can make the hair look healthier. Also when highlighting hair, I add various depths which increases the visual texture and thickness of fine hair.
