Logan’s run
The 2012 Jan Logan catalogue and collection has just been launched, and as is the tradition for the Sydney-based jeweller, the face of the campaign is a rising acting talent. They’ve chosen especially well this year with Elizabeth Debicki, the recent Victorian College of the Arts graduate currently filming the role of gorgeous golfer Jordan Baker in Baz Luhrmann’s much-anticipated The Great Gatsby. The collection of jewels is similarly beautiful, and feature precious and semi-precious stones including diamonds, onyx, rubellite, emeralds and South Sea pearls. There is a touch of Art Deco inspiration here, with some pieces even named after the 1920s-set Great Gatsby (such as the Gatsby tassel earrings, $965, and Gatsby diamond ring, $3,350, left). Gucci
Sydney’s luxury precinct is about to get another boost, with Gucci opening its new flagship store in the city’s shiny new Westfield Centre this Thursday December 1. In the centre alone it will join fellow luxury labels Prada, Miu Miu, Bottega Veneta and Chanel accessories. The new store is set over two floors, with men’s women’s and children’s wear, and will showcase a new design concept by the label’s creative director, Frida Giannini. The space will be deeply luxurious and will offer a modern spin on Art Deco designs of the 1920s (do you see a theme emerging here?), with smoked mirror and smoked bronze glass, ribbed glass, rosewood and marble. (It will be glorious to see the Spring 2012 black-and-gold flapper-style beaded dresses in situ next season.) To celebrate the occasion, Giannini has created a limited-edition Sydney Collection, sold exclusively at the store. The range is made with the brand’s signature GG print (just add Australian flag and Southern Cross), and features a ladies Boston bag, overnight duffle bag (both left), scarf, wrist wallet and Australian critter key chains (crocodiles, kangaroos and koalas—cute). Proceeds from their sale will benefit the Australian Childhood Foundation, for victims of child abuse, and in particular its Heartfelt Art Therapy program. Style with heart—a winning combination.
Folk art
A little morsel from Melbourne-based jewellery designer Lucy Folk could be just the Christmas gift for your stylish foodie friends. Having previously based collections on twirls and tubes of pasta, seafood, popcorn, and more recently on tacos, her latest collection brings pepper into focus. Look for rings and bangles (left) in pink, gritty grey and gold, as well as gold- and silver-plated pieces. The peppercorn-pendant necklaces are also a standout. See www.lucyfolk.com for stockists, and if you’re in Melbourne, pop in to Folk’s new store at 1a Crossley St, for the perfect laneway adventure. You’ll have plenty of places to stop off for a bite once Folk’s pieces have whetted your appetite.
