Two of the Kardashian sisters landed in Sydney in the morning yesterday and were welcomed by mass of paparazzi and fans. The hoopla was even more significant than anyone had expected thanks to Kim’s impending divorce. We find out what the reality star has to say about her 72 days of marriage and what the sisters got up to.
It seems this is the week for big break-ups, as Zooey Deschanel and husband of two years Ben Gibbard have announced their separation.
Kardashian Kraziness
Just one day after the race that stops the nation, we have a visit from the sisters who stop the nation! Kim and Khloe Kardashian must have been incredibly thankful for their bodyguards yesterday after they landed in Sydney with Khloe’s husband Lamar Odom. The trio were met by a swarm of people, all keen to catch just a glimpse of a Kim who we discovered had filed for divorce just the day before.
After their airport exit, the sisters had a full day of press during which Kim was drilled with questions about her marriage of just 72 days. Kim handled the questions like a well-versed pro, repeating what she had outlined in a statement she posted on her website insisting she married for love but admitting to having reservations before the nuptials. The heartfelt statement has even the most sceptical of us wondering if maybe Kim is for real and we’re relieved to hear she plans on donating the money from all her wedding gifts to the Dream Foundation although she still insists she did not make money from her wedding.
Hugo’s Handbag Launch
Last night the sisters appeared at a party at Hugo’s to launch their handbag line but 31-year-old Kim did not seem in the party mood at all. Visibly withdrawn and far from her smiling picture-perfect self, the star’s divorce is clearly playing on her mind. She told The 
Daily Telegraph, “I don’t think I’m ready to talk about the details of (the split). It’s really hard to go through something like this… but especially for now, we made a commitment to do this trip months prior to any personal issues going on in our lives and I wanted to honour that.”
After walking the black carpet, the pair went inside for the party but didn’t stay long, escaping under the midst of darkness. Our fashion commentator Glynis Traill Nash (@GlynisTN) tweeted from the party, “Power cut at #KardashianKollection launch! Perhaps they will escape under cover of darkness…” and then, “I was right! A power cut for the Kardashians to make their dash…”
But their escape wasn’t all that discrete, Khloe was knocked sideways by a camera dropping on her head as she tried to push her way through the media pack, swearing loudly before being bundled into the car.
Today the pair have already made an appearance on Sunrise and are headed to their instore appearances.
Zooey Deschanel’s Split
From one newly single brunette to another. Yesterday Zooey Deschanel announced her split from husband of two years, Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard. The indie favourites were married in September of 2009 and there have been no reports of an impending split or even disrupts during the two years so this has come as a big shock.
After their rep confirmed the news to US Weekly, a source told the magazine the breakup was mutual and amicable and that there was no third party involved. 31-year-old Deschanel has had a rough week as her new show New Girl saw a 19% drop in ratings.
