Tomorrow the north wall of the National Gallery of Victoria will be transformed into a work of art as artist Ash Keating lets off twenty-five compressed and multi-coloured paint-filled fire extinguishers in celebration of the launch of Melbourne Now 2013.
A variety of shades of pink, purple, orange, red, yellow, ochre, and grey will all feature as Keating works to layer and merge the paints upon a banner adorned to the wall while the public look on.
Melbourne Now 2013, an exhibition that aims to recognise the latest art, architecture, design, and performance in what is arguably Australia’s most cultured city, runs from the 22nd of November until the 23rd of March. With over 175 individual and group presentations, as well as a suite of special projects, the exhibition is set to be a dynamic and engaging collection showing off all that Melbourne has to offer.
In addition to the NGA wall, Keating’s three-channel video work, West Park Proposition, will feature in the exhibition. The video involved Keating undertaking an endurance painting performance on the wall of a newly built tilt-slab industrial building in Truganina Victoria.
Melbourne dwellers looking to catch Keating in action should head to the Arts Centre Forecourt on St Kilda Road in Melbourne from 6.30 to 11.30am tomorrow Friday 22nd November.
