Slip on a pair of stilettos next Friday in support of the SISTER2sister program. Child abuse and neglect affects over 30,000 Australian children, the majority of those being females. In fact, young girls are two to three times more likely to be abused than boys.
Friday 6th of December is Step Up for Sisterhood Day, where women are asked to wear their favourite stilettos in place of their workplace or causal shoes in exchange for a gold coin donation. The money donated will go towards the SISTER2sister program, run by the Life Changing Experience Foundation. The 12 month program sees troubled teenage girls mentored by older women, or ‘Big Sisters.’ It assists them to make positive life choices by taking the girls and their big sisters on life changing experiences monthly to help them build confidence and lead them down a better path in life.
The SISTER2sister program is aimed at girls between 12-18 years old, who are considered at risk due to trauma, bereavement, poverty, sexual abuse, mental and physical abuse, neglect, homelessness, sickness/disability and destitution. These girls are identified as at risk by school welfare systems, women’s refuges, youth programs such as ‘On Track’ and the ‘Don Bosco House,’ as well as rape crisis centres and the general public.
Step Up for Sisterhood Day hopes to reach $100,000 of donations to add to the hundreds of girls who have previously been helped by the program.
Your gold coin donation will help young girls who are in dire need of assistance and guidance, and we encourage you to register at stepupforsisterhood.org.au to step into your stilettos and donate!
