Vera Wang for Wedgwood Q&A
How long have you been working with Wedgwood?
Vera Wang: We first launched the Vera Wang for Wedgwood tabletop line back in 2002, before introducing the silver, flatware and gifts collection the following year. Since then I have designed a number of collections for the brand.
How would you describe your collections with Wedgwood?
Vera Wang:I design each piece with a modern approach to classic style and the attention to detail that is reflected in each of my collections. The collections blend subtlety with sophistication and the results are elegant, timeless and luxurious – live it, enjoy it.
Positioned at the highest end of the luxury market, they’re perfect for wedding tableware but are also accessible for people to enjoy using in everyday life. Each range features an artistic, modern and luxurious design and a couture-like quality.
What was the inspiration behind your latest collections?
Vera Wang:Each of the latest collections focuses on feminine sophistication and modern luxury. Sequin crystal stemware and giftware, and an enticing new selection of With Love Noir metal giftware..
The additions to the With Love Noir collection, the silver plate and black enamel giftware, adds Wedding Day keepsakes to the mix, that will forever evoke cherished memories.
What is it about the Wedgwood brand that first enticed you to collaborate with them?
Vera Wang:I first became interested in collaborating with Wedgwood, as they share our deep appreciation for design and unwavering commitment to fine craftsmanship.
How different is it designing for interiors (table ware of gift ware) vs. fashion?
Vera Wang:I think designing for the home is really exciting, because the same techniques that we explore in fabrication and design in clothing is what we’re trying to express for the home as well. And I think that’s an extremely modern concept, and a concept that lets us approach design from a totally fresh way.
What plans do you have for the coming year?
Vera Wang:Work, travel…and then more work!
What is your favourite room in your home and why?
Vera Wang:My bedroom- it’s my favourite place to design. It’s the place that I feel the most relaxed and the most secure and probably, the most rested.
Is there someone/something that has played a key role in inspiring your work?
Vera Wang:I have always been inspired by art – all kinds, all periods
