Cressida Bonas is on the cover of the Australian Women’s Weekly this week — a signal to royal watchers and pundits that an engagement may be on the cards! As the royal PR machine kicks into gear to promote the next bride of the House of Windsor. Having cleared all the milestones that Will and Kate needed to achieve without dimming their limelight, Cressida and Harry’s path is clear to shine.
In October 2013 we brought you our account of our own brush with royalty, along with all the need-to-knows on this gorgeous princess in waiting…
You may have heard the name Cressida Bonas recently, or seen a photo of a breathtaking blonde next to this name. Suddenly, she seems to be everywhere. So who is Cressida Bonas?
She is a bona fide British blueblood, as well as Prince Harry’s girlfriend of eighteen months. Harry and 24-year-old Cressida have conducted their romance away from the notoriously nosy British press, but with rumours of proposals and invitations to Royal events popping up left, right, and centre, she has been pushed squarely into the spotlight.
Cressida, or “Cressy,” as she is known to friends and family, has been dubbed the ‘anti-Kate,’ by the British press because of her free spirited ways and bohemian style. The daughter of notorious ’60s ‘It’ girl Lady Mary-Gaye Georgiana Lorna Curzon, heir to the Curzon banking family, her father Jeffrey Bonas is also aristocratic, having studied at Oxford before becoming a successful entrepreneur and businessman.
Cressida studied dance at Leeds, and graduated from the Trinity Laban Conservatoire earlier this year. Unsurprisingly, she is a terror on the dance floor, and her love of festivals is well documented- she even persuaded Harry to attend the Womad festival of world music and Glastonbury with her this year.
She is also firmly part of the elite crew of models, musicians and royalty who comprise England’s glamorous social world. She met Prince Harry through Princess Eugenie, and is also friends with model-of-the-moment Cara Delevigne. Cressy has even spent time in Australia. In 2012, she and a friend spent a gap year working at Mrs Sippy in Sydney’s Double Bay, although Bonas was relegated to the bar due to her less-than-perfect waitressing skills.
While her low-key approach has marked her time with Harry so far, it is her relaxed sense of style that has defined her in opposition to Kate and her impeccable grooming. Although both turn to the high street as much as to high fashion designers, Kate deliberately plans her outfits to suit the occasion whereas Cressida’s street style is, despite her family’s wealth, basically due to the fact that she is a broke student! Recently seen leaving a date night with Harry at the London production of The Book of Mormon, Cressida was snapped wearing Doc Martens, a checked flannel shirt, and her hair accessory of choice- a scrunchie!
And at Glastonbury, where admittedly, normal fashion rules don’t apply, she was spotted in denim overalls, white Adidas sneakers and green neon shades, finished off with a wrist-full of friendship bracelets.
With Prince Harry’s recent comments that he is ready for marriage and children, possibly inspired by his elder brother, many people are wondering whether this fresh-faced beauty might be ‘the One.’
Rescu. Loves: Our Ed has had the pleasure if Cressida’s company while she was Sydney based and was overwhelmingly impressed by her low key charm and fresh faced beauty. A close friend of Sydney blue bloods Tim and Charlotte Holmes a Court, Cressida Bonas has the quiet confidence and warmth to light up a room. She will be another PR dynamo for the Royal Family.
