Healthy, glowing skin isn’t restricted to the red-carpets, we can all have that luminous celebrity look – and with much less makeup. Healthy skin is a result of a healthy lifestyle, so if you want to look beautiful on the outside the key is nourishment from the inside.
Shannon McNeill, wellness supervisor and senior naturopath at Gwinganna shares her selection of delicious healthy foods and a mouth-watering recipe that will have you glowing.
Coconut oil
Contains health giving properties, antioxidants, and helps repair skin by supporting healthy connective tissue. The medium chain triglycerides, naturally occurring in coconut oil deeply penetrate and moisturise the skin. Easy ways to use this oil include blending it into smoothies, use in cooking or apply directly to the skin.
Cucumbers
Often overlooked as a wonderful snack the cucumber is high in silicon, dietary fibre and antioxidants and is fantastic for cleansing your bodies. Use it in salads and smoothies, or on its own as a snack.
Aloe Vera
Traditionally known for long lasting youth, aloe vera gives skin a glow as it will oxygenate blood and energise cells, hydrating the skin and nourishing skin tissue. It can also be taken internally to strengthen digestive health. Healthy digestion means healthy skin.
Macadamia nuts
Macadamia nuts are a rich source of flavanoids, an antioxidant that destroys free radicals that can make the body age. Also high in selenium and zinc making skin more glowing and beautiful.
Pumpkin seeds
These seeds provide an abundance of zinc, a vital mineral necessary for a healthy glow. Zinc protects the cell membrane, helps to maintain collagen and promotes skin renewal.
