Held in the historic Darlinghurst home of Mark Carnegie, the entrepreneur generously offered to host the altruistic evening at the last minute when it became apparent the event could no longer be held at the Horizon, one of Sydney’s most prestigious residential buildings and home to many of the guests who co-organised the charitable dinner.
Carnegie’s heartfelt efforts tied in well with the community spirit theme of the night, with guests dining to raise funds for The Wayside Chapel, an inspiring charity that has provided support for the Kings Cross homeless since 1964.
The night itself turned out to be an overwhelming success with up to $50,000 raised for the local charity.
Australia’s most admired community figures were all in attendance including The Governor of NSW, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir, AV, CVO, The Hon Malcolm Turnbull, MP & Lucy Turnbull, MC, the ABC’s James Valentine, The Rev Graham Long, Pastor & CEO of The Wayside Chapel, Claudia Karvan and Charlotte Dawson.
Thrilled with the results from the evening Pastor & CEO of The Wayside Chapel, Rev Graham Long said: “With only 15% of our total funds coming from government funding, the life and health of Wayside is largely formed by the generosity of good-hearted people and organisations. This support will help us achieve astonishing returns not just for the people who visit Wayside but for the community as a whole”
