To achieve pure gift-giving perfection this mothers day, don’t tread too lightly. Layer the love with the gift of Fragrance Combining™.
Mothers Day is the perfect event to get personal with the mother, grandmother, aunt or woman in your life that has really carried the load, dried the tears, sparked the laughs and shared the lessons. Whether you go big or small, Fragrance Combining™ is the perfect gift, one that is chic, simple and blooms fuller with each passing year.
At Jo Malone London – a company synonymous with gift giving – Fragrance Combining takes the gift of fragrance up a level, allowing you – and the wearer – to create a unique fragrance fingerprint. “Fragrance Combining™ is a Jo Malone London trade mark which has been an integral part of the brand from inception,” explains Fiona Pereira, National Sales & Education Manager at Jo Malone London.
What is Fragrance Combining?
Fragrance Combining™ is a fashion statement for the senses. Like coordinating that LBD with the ankle grazing wool coat, or working your clutch back with a simple ballet flat, so too can fragrance combining enhance the style, elegance and longevity of your daily style by layering and combining olfactory elements.
How can you Combine Fragrances?
There are many ways to layer fragrance. You may wish to use two colognes to layer scents, or you might choose to begin in the shower, using a scented shower product and then sealing the skin with lush oil once patted dry. Or you may prefer to ward off any wintery-weather chills with a super rich body crème, finished off with lighter cologne. And its never too late to layer, even if you are racing out the door, assures Fiona. “A fragrance that is perceived to be more heavy or heady can be sprayed into the air and then you can walk into the vapour,” she advises.
What are the Winning Fragrance Combinations?
When combining scents, the core message is to keep it unique, but there are very few additional rules and each Jo Malone London fragrance is designed to be worn alone or combined, so that even if you give just one scent for a gift – a body crème, cologne or even oil – you can add to the fragrance library with each ensuing year. “Within the Jo Malone London brand there are no fragrances that can’t be combined,” Fiona says. “The Jo Malone London fragrances are simply constructed so that combining is advantageous,” she notes, adding that the only exception to the rule is with very complex fragrances involving various ingredients, which may be better worn solo.
Fragrance Combining Codes:
To Achieve A Cool Floral: Apply English Pear & Freesia Body Crème and add a spritz of Wild Bluebell Cologne
To Achieve A Warm Floral: Layer Red Roses Body Crème with Blackberry & Bay to create a warm floral fragrance with a hint of dark berry juices.
To Achieve A Streamlined Scent: If you prefer to keep your scent singular, you can simply accentuate one strong favourite in various ways, such as combining Peony & Blush Suede with Pink Peony & Blush Suede Body and Hand Wash and Pink Peony & Blush Suede Body Crème, for example.
To Achieve A Timeless Scent For Any Age: Pink Peony & Blush Suede combined envelope the lingering opulence of jasmine and warm suede with a sharp bite of red apple.
To Achieve A Strong Essence To Add On Each Year: Begin by gifting Wood Sage & Sea Salt together to herald a modern base of traditional notes. The salt and ambrette seeds prove a stimulating accent against the woody base notes of sage, whilst retaining its elegance.
Tips To Layering:
Cologne:
If you are layering cologne, hold it approximately 10cm from your body, spritzing two or three times over the neck, shoulders and arms prior to dressing. Press on the scent with your palm to settle it. Repeat these steps with your complimentary additional fragrance.
Body Crème:
Prior to combining body crème, warm a generous amount in the palms of the hands and massage over the entire body from the feet upwards in large, circular motions. Wait until it is settled – which generally takes two minutes – and use this time to brush your teeth or dry your hair! “Moisturising the skin allows for the fragrance to anchor,” explains Fiona. “Fragrance applied to dry skin tends to evaporate more quickly leaving less on the skin and more in the air. Fragrance will last longer if applied on the skin as well as the clothing,” she says, advising that when applied after clothing, its best to spray into the air and then walk into the vapour.
Shower Wash:
Apply a generous amount over the body in the shower and pat dry. Then, warm a small amount of body and hand lotion between the palms and smooth over the skin in circular motions before dressing.
Rescu. Loves: the joy of Jo Malone London as a gift begins well before the big reveal. The iconic cream and black box, grosgrain ribbon and scented tissue paper prove an art form alone. Then, as each Jo Malone London scent is worn and combined, the staying power comes to the fore; the notes linger longer all day and create a lasting impression on the wearer and those around them.
