A realistic, romantic drama that delves into the emotional aspects of financial problems in relationships, Sarah Pekkanen’s Skipping A Beat has been praised by Oprah’s O Magazine and The Washington Post. Beware – the ending may shock some readers …
The plot:
Julia and Michael are a wealthy, workaholic couple who live in Washington D.C. Even though they live in a multi-million-dollar mansion and have achieved their goals, Julia is unhappy and is on the brink of divorcing Michael.
After Michael collapses in his office and his heart stops for four minutes, he becomes a different man. Money is now meaningless to him and he decides to give it all away … Michael also suspects that Julia is thinking about divorcing him, and he begs her to fall in love with him again.
Moving between the present and past, this book explores how Julia and Michael fell in love as teenagers, and then endured many financial challenges before Michael became a millionaire due to his start-up business.
Book reviews:
“Intelligent and entertaining … the questions the heroine faces about love, money and fate may be timeworn, but Pekkanen inserts enough humor and psychological insight to elevate the plot beyond the expected.” – The Washington Post
“This novel changed my life.” – LitFest
“Pick it up now.” – O Magazine
