A chic braid can take you from work to play, but if you struggle to master the style, you’re not alone. Braids can be tricky, so we’ve consulted Troy Thompson, TRESemme hair director on Australia’s Next Top Model for his tips on how to master this trend. This sports braid was rocked by Jade on the show, and we can’t wait to try it out at home.
1. When you want to create a sports braid, always ensure that you blowdry the hairline backwards towards the middle of your head to create a smooth finish. Rescu. Recommends: VS Sassoon Ultimate Salon Dryer ($72.95) For a salon quality style at home, we can’t go past this high impact dryer. We love the the handy swivel cord!
2. After blowdrying, spray the hairline with hairspray and brush backwards using a paddle brush to create a smooth finish. Rescu. Recommends: Lady Jayne Multi Tuft Pad Brush ($9.69), we love the soft gel grip handle and high shine result.
3. To start your sports braid, take a section of hair from the top of your head and divide into two parts. Cross these over one another and add sections of hair, bit by bit, as you move down the back of the head.
4. Be sure to keep tension throughout the hair– you may need to apply hairspray as you go along to maintain smooth finish and tension. Rescu. Recommends: TRESemme TRES Two Hairspray ($7.99) for a dry, super-lightweight formula that holds its own.
5. After you have finished the braid, turn it up under itself and secure against the scalp with a french pin.
