This month, pink is even more significant here at RESCU, signalling the arrival of Breast Cancer Awareness month.
A staggering 17,210 women are predicted to be diagnosed with breast cancer in Australia in 2020; this is an average of 47 women every day. Even now, it’s something we as women, and men, have all dealt or will deal with one way or another throughout the course of our lives.
In light of this statistic, some of my favourite beauty and lifestyle brands bare the pink ribbon year upon year, and offer products raising awareness and funds, but they’re not just doing their bit – they’re going the extra mile.
RESCU’s interior design expert Darren Palmer, judge on Channel 9’s The Block, has teamed up with Sealy Posturepedic, along with Reg Mombasa, Akira Isogawa, Henry Roth, Poncho Army and Shaynna Blaze to create a series of limited edition beds that will be auctioned off between the 17th-27th October (Pink Ribbon Day).
Darren, who has seen close friends diagnosed and treated said, “My inspiration was to deliver something quintessential to my aesthetic. A little piece of designer luxury, encompassing natural beauty. I was concerned how it would translate but it worked beautifully and the sides are a lovely herringbone pattern. Timber feet add the final level of finesse.
“The more funds we have to assist in the understanding and treatment of cancer the better, and whatever I can do to help is the least I can do.”
Avon’s Crusade to end breast cancer has raised over $11 million in Australia and New Zealand, with 100% of the profits from their Pink Ribbon product range go towards breast cancer prevention, research and rehabilitation. Their range includes a Breast Cancer Crusade Pin, Pink Ribbon Friendship Pen, Breast Cancer Crusade Teddy, Avon Breast Cancer Crusade Xmas Bauble and an Australian Women’s Health Diary.
