Australian actress Rose Byrne is putting her understated style on the international radar as the newly appointed face of Oroton. As if it wasn’t enough that we were already suitably seduced by her candor, humour, beauty, chicness and super hot boyfriend – Boardwalk Empire star Bobby Cannavale.
Style
“Growing up, Oroton was always the label of luxury,” says the Sydney-raised actress of her exciting new appointment with the brand. “I would see their stores on trips from Balmain into the city and just gaze and window shop.” The luxurious – yet laidback – brand is the perfect partnership for Rose, who describes her style as ‘evolving’. She credits London super stylist, Penny Lovell as overhauling and refining her tastes on the red carpet, but for everyday kicking about with her amore, Bobby Cannavale, she gets most of her inspiration from street style, especially when in Europe. “There is an intrinsic rebelliousness within the London fashion scene that I love,” says the fan of anything from Christina Cota and Valentino to Urban Outfitters and Topshop. “I always make sure to go to Urban Outfitters. It’s deadly shopping here,” she has said, adding that she is very low key in stylistically. “I’m usually wearing something from TopShop or Urban Outfitters. I’m very low-key. I love second hand. I love vintage.”
Beauty
Rose – a former face of Max Factor – admits to having very sensitive skin, making her streamlined, environmentally friendly skincare routine a must. “Rose hip oil is a really great soothing product for me, since I get rosacea,” she has said, naming Dermalogica as a favourite brand. “For me, the simpler the better.” So severe are her allergic reactions (to three cosmetic chemicals in particular; Propolis Cera, Propylene Glycol, and Tocopheryl) that she has had to completely rethink her routine. After streamlining her skincare and resetting her skin recently, she can now add in some more mass brands, such as her favourite L’Oreal foundation and Covergirl mascara. Her allergies have eased so much that she is happily wearing scent again too “I love the Marc Jacobs one, Lola. That’s really pretty,” she has said.
Wellbeing
“As you get older you get a lot more confident,” Rose has told reporters of her increasing body and image confidence. And it’s a confidence she has had to build upon, with rumors swirling incessantly that the super-svelte actress has an eating disorder. “I was kind of shocked anyone would even notice me,” she has said in an interview of the first time her figure made a front page. “I’m very under the radar. So when my mum rang and said: ‘Are you OK?’ I was like: ‘What are you talking about?” Rose puts her weight-loss down to stress, and with a back-to-back schedule of shooting 59 episodes of ‘Damages’, through to brilliant cinematic turns in ‘Bridesmaids’, ‘The Place Beyond the Pines’ and ‘Bad Neighbours’ recently, it’s no wonder the pressure has affected her appearance, she notes. “I was a born worrier. I get very intense about things, especially work, but I’m trying not to. My mother tells me I must try to relax more,” she has told curious reporters. And if that means being cool and calm when shopping for Ben and Jerry’s ice-cream, or dining out hearty Italian fare also favored by her half Cuban, half Italian, New Jersey raised boyfriend, the bring it on. “‘I just enjoy my life,’ she has remarked ‘That’s my new challenge.
