There are a lot of things we expect to trend online after a Paris Fashion Week show — big name celebrities, model slip-ups, outlandish couture, blogger behavior — but Derek Zoolander just isn’t one of them, especially some 14 years after the character made the big screen.
Turns out, sometimes you really can expect the unexpected. After Valentino’s runway show at Paris Fashion Week all anyone could talk about was Derek Zoolander’s dramatic return thanks to Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson who crashed the runway once the show finished, causing a flurry of frantic Instagraming and filming like no show has seen this season.
Dressed to in Maison Valentino and with their best blue steel emblazoned on their faces, Stiller and Wilson walked the runway as a stunt to announce the release of Zoolander 2, which will be filmed in Rome and released in February next year. Given the first film was released in 2001 (can you believe it?!) we certainly were not expecting a sequel, but we’re pretty thrilled to hear the news and basically in love with their method of announcing it.
Zoolander (Stiller) wore a custom night butterflies brocade suit with hand-embroidered overcoat and black creeper shoes and actually managed to turn left, at least, according to @ManRepeller’s tweet. Hansel (Wilson) donned a silk continental print pyjama suit with double cashmere overcoat and open sneakers. It was so good, even Anna Wintour cracked a smile, albeit a slight one.
