Once the eternal bachelor, Hollywood actor and silver fox George Clooney has married fiancee, human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin in a sunset ceremony in Venice, Italy on Saturday night.
Hollywood royalty including U2’s Bono, Matt Damon, John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, Bill Murray, Cindy Crawford, and Vogue editor Anna Wintour attended the four-day affair, photographed en route to the wedding in water taxis baring the monogrammed flag.
Clooney, 53, and Alamuddin, 36, travelled in water taxis, appropriately appropriately named “Amore,” or “Love,” passing throngs of papparazzi and tourists in gondolas as they went.
The couple exchanged their vows were exchanged at a 16th-century palazzo-turned-hotel called the Aman Canal Grande Venice, where the same place Alamuddin and had here hen’s party on Friday night.
A shipment of white bud roses and various white centerpieces were said to have arrived at the Aman ahead of the festivities.
The bride-to-be was dressed in black-and-white Dolce and Gabbana, while Clooney wore a sharply tailored gray suit and white shirt with dark sunglasses.
On Saturday night, the bride and groom and the estimated 130 guests reportedly enjoyed drinks in a rear garden upon arrival. Then, they headed indoors for dinner in the main dining room, where the couple then exchanged vows informally ahead of a civil service at Venice’s town hall Monday.
Reports say appetizers included polenta with wild mushrooms and prosciutto ham with figs and plenty of champagne. The formal dinner was five courses and there was lobster, among other delicacies.
While it rumoured the bride wore an Alexander McQueen gown, Alamuddin did not disappoint onlookers, appearing in several stunning designs before and after the wedding. Oscar de la Renta also another rumoured designer for the wedding dress. The couple have reportedly sold the rights to their wedding pictures US Vogue, so hopefully we won’t have to long to see the much anticipated gown.
Clooney opted for an Armani wedding tux, while Amal’s best friend and bridesmaid, Jennifer Robinson wore a dress designed by Sydney-based evening wear specialist, Johanna Johnson.
The couple are expected to spend their honeymoon in Morocco’s former imperial city of Marrakech, according to a source.
Despite having already exchanged vows, the couple are still tipped to officialise the marriage under Italian law at the town hall on Monday.
