Rescu. Editor and Founder, Bahar Etminan completed a DNA swab test with SkinDNA’s Co-Creator, Stefan Mazy (pictured above), to see just how her DNA influences the onset of skin ageing.
Category 1 – Firmness + Elasticity =Low Risk
This category looks at collagen breakdown that leads to loose skin. From your report I can see that the enzyme responsible for collagen breakdown is sitting at normal, so nothing too worrying to be concerned with.
Category 2 – Wrinkling = Medium Risk
This category deals with Glycation which is when a sugar molecule binds to a collagen fiber causing it to become brittle. Ideally the best thing I can suggest is to lower your sugar intake as well as incorporate blueberries into your diet. I would recommend LED treatments (red, IR or orange light), Palmitoyl Oliopeptides and Palmitoyl Pentapetides I believe they are in an ingredient called “Matrxyl 3000” this will help to increase collagen stimulation. Also recommend the use of Vitamin C to help protect the existing collagen.
Category 3 – Sun Damage + Pigmentation = High Risk
I know these results look scary but they are not that bad. Your results mainly show to me that your body isnt as effiecint as producing melanin. What that means is when you go into the sun your going to be more prone to burning as well as freckling you may also find that you dont tan very well. Judging by your results there is an indication that your prone to Melasma – or abnormal pigmentation growth.
I would recommend some photo protectant ingredients to apply, these work within the after the rays have by passed the sunscreen. Ferulic Acid – phytochemical found in plants? Also found in foods – oats, rice, artichoke, orange, pineapple, apple, peanut. alpha tocopherol free radical scavenger as well as helps to heal and nourish skin. Zinc oxide in sunblock (not sunscreen) ?Sunblock typically refers to opaque sunscreen that is effective at blocking both UVA and UVB rays and uses a heavy carrier oil to resist being washed off.
Category 4 – Free Radical Damage =High Risk
This category identifies how well your body is able to produce its natural antioxidants (superoxide dismutase and glutathione) – Your Superoxide Dismutase score shows you as deficient and sub-normal for your quinone detoxification levels. I would recommend more fruit intake as well as a superoxide dismutase supplement. For you skin, also incorporate your photo-protectants and antioxidant serums – Vitamin C would be one of the best to use.
Category 5 – Sensitivity + Inflammation = Medium Risk
Your only variations in this category deals with how sensitive your body is to chemicals in the air as well as pollution and perfumes. Based on your outcome your body treats these as a threat and releases more inflammatory proteins to break it down – as a result the extra inflammation produced will come up as a rash, redness, irritations. For some people this type of sensitive will only arise over time as their body becomes more desensitized to the city pollution.

According to anti-aging mastermind Dr. Vincent C Giampapa, internationally recognized Aesthetic, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon, past medical opinion says that we will inherit our parents’ genes; however, new opinion and research is indicating that genes are no longer the only determining factor in the ageing process. In fact, our genes determine only 30% and 70% is up to us. In other words, the majority of the ageing process rests in our ability to control our lifestyle, environment and how we look after our bodies and our DNA.
As one of the top trends in anti-ageing skincare is stem cell derived skincare with Growth Factors, we decided to pick Dr Giampapa’s brain on how stem cell derived skincare coaxes the skin back to a healthy, regenerative state.
Rescu: What role do Stem Cells play in the Ageing process?
Dr. Vincent Giampapa: In our bodies there are two types of general groups of cells; our body cells and stem cells. Stem cells keep our body healthy – they create the new cells and determine how well we look and age. Additional, stem cells produce things called growth factors, which we now know, is the secret to keeping our body healthy and how we look and age in our skin.
Rescu: What are the anti-ageing properties of growth factors in stem cells & how do they work?
Dr Vincent Giampapa: Growth Factors are proteins that help to support the structure of skin cells, giving the skin a healthy appearance.
As we age, the production of rejuvenation factors within our skin is reduced, intensifying the visible signs of ageing. This may be caused by the sun, pollution, stress or simply the natural ageing process. Either way, as the production of growth factors decreases, we start to develop fine lines and wrinkles. Growth factors have been used for years in professional skincare to support the rejuvenation of the skin and are known to maintain and regenerate the body.

Get excited to shake those last few inches ladies, just in time for the long haul of summer; Solta Medical, global market leader in aesthetic treatments, has today launched Liposonix, a groundbreaking non-invasive treatment that shaves an inch off your waist for a custom contouring solution.
Liposonix uses advanced high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) technology and is completely non-invasive.
“When you have tried a healthy diet and exercise but you still can’t get rid of that last inch around the waist, then Liposonix offers a new, customised solution. The treatment is groundbreaking in that you can lose one dress or pant size with only one treatment, in only one hour. It is safe, non-surgical, non-invasive and it works,” said Cosmetic Physician, Dr Tass Tasiopoulos.
Unlike other non-invasive fat reduction treatments, Liposonix permanently destroys the fat cells found beneath the skin without harming the skin’s surface in just one treatment session that typically takes about one hour. The body naturally processes and removes the fat tissue over a period of 8 to 12 weeks, leaving behind the desired slimmer, more contoured waistline. Clinical studies have demonstrated an average waist circumference reduction of approximately 2.6 cm (1 inch) after a single Liposonix treatment.
