Generations of Australians have grown up with Jeans for Genes, which began with the simple idea of wearing jeans and making a gold coin donation to help find cures for sick children nationwide. Now, Jeans for Genes is excited to announce a public exhibition of celebrity jeans on Saturday 12th July at The Grounds of Alexandria to celebrate 21 years of the organisations efforts to raise money for children’s medical research.
The Jeans for Genes Denim Exhibition will give the public a chance to view an exclusive selection of denim artwork and personally signed jeans donated by international and Australian celebrities such as James Franco, The Kardashians, Eric Bana, Gene Simmons, Maroon 5 and more. Attendees can explore the exhibit and the inspiration behind each artists design whilst enjoying the inner city sanctuary of the Grounds of Alexandria. Among the exhibit will be a unique piece of artwork featuring jeans donated by Anthony Kiedes from Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Australian artist Kathrin Longhurst says of her design for Anthony Kiedis:
“What an absolute treat to be given Anthony Kiedis jeans to paint this year. My artwork is really a collaborative effort – part of it is not mine. The man himself creates the portrait on the right leg of the jeans. Anthony is a great philanthropist himself, giving charity concerts and donating time and money to many good causes.”
Later this year, the celebrity jeans on display will be auctioned at a Jeans for Genes Gala event where they are expected to fetch up to $25,000 dollars. There will be an opportunity for the public to make a donation or purchase limited edition merchandise during the free exhibition and all donations will go towards the Jeans for Genes foundation and Children’s Medical Research Institute. Jeans for Genes Day will take place on Friday August 1st. For more information or to register your support, click here
