After viewing the latest satellite data, Malaysia Airlines has informed relatives of those on board missing flight MH370 that they believe there are no survivors. In a sad announcement, the airlines state that the plane went down in the Indian Ocean, presumably killing those on board.
An SMS message was sent to all relatives of the 329 MH370 passengers, stating, ‘Malaysia Airlines deeply regrets that we have to assume beyond any reasonable doubt that MH370 has been lost and that none of those on board survived… we must now accept all evidence suggests the plane went down in the southern Indian Ocean.’
The Prime Minister of Malaysia, Najib Razak, made a statement in a news conference at 1am this morning, AEDT. He said that the Inmarsat satellite company had used never-before used technology to discover that MH370 flew along the southern corridor, over the Indian Ocean west of Perth.
‘This is a remote location far from any possible landing sites,’ said Najib Razak. ‘It is therefore with deep sadness that I regret that I must inform you that according to this new data that MH370 ended in the southern Indian Ocean.’
‘The past few weeks have been heartbreaking. I know this news must be harder still.’
Many families of MH370 passengers have spoken out in anger about the way that the search for the flight has been handled. Over the 18 day period during which MH370 has been missing conflicting information has been released, leading to confusion and false hope. Hopefully this tragic announcement will offer families the opportunity for some peace, and to farewell their love ones.
