Tonight’s episode of the social experiment, Big Brother Australia sees four new housemates enter the arena with the premise of shaking up the current housemates.
Previously, the intruders got to know each other get to know each other over a few drinks, with only a wall separating them and the current contestants. The noise of their socialising caught the attention of the current housemates on the other side of the wall.
So what can you expect from “the four next door”? Well, if you think you recognise new girl Penny, it’s because she’s no stranger to the reality television world. A former contestant on Channel 10’s So You Think You Can Dance and former cheerleader for the NBL, Penny now runs a dance school and lives alone with her dog Poppy. She has admitted to a few or her quirks such as wearing three bras at a time “so my boobs won’t be saggy when I’m older”.
Lina describes herself as a “survivor of the Tiananmen Square massacre” and says she was the first Western baby to be born in the Nanjing Hospital in China. She has lived in Australia since she was a child, and is a self confessed fashion addict with a Masters in diplomacy and international trade.
Richard was raised on a farm and wasn’t allowed to watch television as a child, unless it was the news. He has a finance degree and has travelled extensively.
“I tend to nose pick occasionally,” he revealed. “I’m a terrible cook and can be very lazy. I also hate when others complain about little things. I hate the unnecessary drama, absolutely hate it.”
Tom is a described as a “mummy’s boy” who has spent years travelling. He is also volunteer at a children’s hospital in his spare time.
“Seeing the toughness and resilience of the children along with their zest for life really has helped put my own into perspective.”
So far, two previous intruders, a few cameos from last year’s contestants, a fake eviction, a pair of cheating housemates and continued drama failed to translate into a ratings lift for the show, despite it’s scuccess from last year.
The four intruder are set to up the nightly audience, which saw just 540,000 viewers tuning in to Thursday night’s show.
Big Brother airs tonight at 8.30pm on Channel Nine.
