The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival had Sydney a buzz last week showcasing the upcoming collections and trends for the Spring/Summer season. Aside from the fashion, this festival also gives great insight into the upcoming trends for beauty, especially hair. Today we’re going to look at the two biggest hair trends you will see over the coming months.
Super Sleek
The dominating trend on the catwalk this week was an array of sleek up-dos. Each evening the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Review Show featured simple, minimalistic styles that kept hair off the face and eyes on the fashion. This look also made debuts in the Harpers Bazaar and Myer shows in the form of side-parted, mid-set ponytails.
Sleek hair isn’t just for the ladies this season as we saw men also got the clean-cut treatment in the Boys Of The Festival Show by GQ. Redken Hair Director, Maria Ardino from Ardino Hair Face Body, had this to say about the trend:
“The reason we are seeing a return to the gloss finish is because it brings with it sophistication and a look of health”.

Textured Tresses
Spring/Summer is a time to be carefree and fancy free, right? If the hair on the catwalk is anything to go by (and we believe it is!), than messy, textured hair is the way to go.
Speedo did it best with their natural looking beach waves, but the Peter Morrisey show looked to an unlikely era for inspiration, explains Redken Hair Director, Jon Pulitano,
“For the Morrissey show, we wanted to take that 1940s structured wave and funk it up with a flat, almost plastic front. We made it a little edgier with a wet meets dry texture, similar to what we are seeing emerge from international runways”
