Best way to put a new relationship to the test – participate in a reality cooking show. My Kitchen Rules contestants Andrew and Emelia (competing for ACT) have been together for less than a year, but describe themselves as ‘sparkly ones’ believing they’ve found ‘the one’.
Unfortunately the pair’s first dinner was not so sparkly. The heat rose in the kitchen with the couple arguing constantly, igniting audience concerns for the future of their relationship.
The night got off to a bad start for the couple with their ‘Shrimp in a Barrel’ being panned by the judges as ‘confusing’. With a sauce comprised of pineapple juice, Jack Daniels and curry powder it’s not surprising that the dish wasn’t a success. Judge Pete Evans went as far as to say that the sauce was ‘killing the prawns’.
When the main course of Gourmet Gumbo was served, the chefs noted that the drama in the kitchen had made it to the plate. Pete Evans commented that there was ‘no love’ on the plate, whilst Manu Feildel said that he could only see ‘stress’.
The couple received an overall score of 47, a poor effort compared to the 82 scored by Annie and Jason from NSW on Monday night. ‘We’re here to put Canberra on the map,’ says Emelia on the My Kitchen Rules website. ‘We’re really colourful and bright – we’re not boring people like you would expect from Canberra.’ The couple are certainly not boring, but whether they can stand the stress of the My Kitchen Rules kitchen is yet to be seen.
