Ditch your early morning speed dry and try out these top tips for a salon quality blow dry at home. To ensure that you get the best body and style for your hair, we consulted Jessica Barr of The Blowdry Boutique to discover the very best blowdry techniques for your hair.
Fine Hair
1. Wash your hair with a light volumising shampoo and conditioner. Use a volumising root lift spray or mousse around the roots of your hair after towel drying and before blowdrying to add volume and height.
2. Tip your head upside down to dry up to 70% of your hair – this will allow for the hair to lift off your scalp to create more volume.
3. Separate your hair into sections to blowdry – lift in an upward motion to get as much volume into the hair as possible.
4. Once the hair is finished, add light hairspray to finalise the look – anything too heavy will weigh the hair down.
Medium/Thick Hair
1. When shampooing and conditioning your hair, avoid using too much conditioner on the roots to avoid greasy hair.
2. Apply more conditioner to the mid lengths and ends and make sure you rinse thoroughly.
3. Make sure your stretch the roots when blowdrying – if the hair isn’t stretched, your blowdry will not last as long.
4. Leave the brushes or rollers in sections of your hair to set and cool to achieve great bouncy effect.
Curly Hair
1. Shampoo and condition your hair with deep conditioning/anti-frizz. Use an anti-frizz serum after towel drying your hair and before blowdrying to tame your hair before styling.
2. Dry up to 50% of your hair before sectioning ready to blowdry. Smaller sections allows you to focus on stretching the hair. Go over the sections a couple of times to ensure each layer is smooth.
3. Once the blowdry is complete, use a gloss or Moroccan Oil to smooth the ends (avoid the roots).
General:
· Invest in a shower cap between blowdries to avoid frizzy hair from the steam in the shower.
· When using styling tools like straighteners and curling irons, prep the hair before and spritz a little heat protection spray to avoid damaging your hair.
