Luxury womenswear fashion designer, Roland Mouret sat down with Rescu. to discuss all things fashion as well as his new range of merino dresses, which evolved following on from his invitation from Woolmark to judge the International Woolmark Prize Australian Regional Award.
Hailing from Lourdes, France, Roland Mouret’s signature designs are part of his inspiring and evolving journey as a leading fashion designer. His iconic dresses the Galaxy, Titanium and Moon, made famous by Victoria Beckham, Demi Moore, Beyonce have earned Mouret a reputation as the master of structure and silhouette with an understanding of the female form.
During his time in Australia, Roland launched his range of merino dresses, which evolved following on from his invitation from Woolmark to judge the 2014/15 International Woolmark Prize Australian Regional Award.
For the first time the awards included both women’s and menswear categories with Peter Strateas and Mario Luca Carlucci of Melbourne-based label STRATEAS.CARLUCCI, taking out the Australia regional final for both the menswear and womenswear categories.
A judging panel also included Deborah Foreman, David Jones General Manager for Menswear; Sophie Clarke, David Jones General Manager for Womenswear; Edwina McCann, Vogue Australia Editor-in-Chief; and Kellie Hush, Harper’s BAZAAR Australia Editor-in-Chief.
Inspired by Indigenous artist Emily Kngwarreye, the label hit the mark with theirexquisite tailoring of woven Merino wool. The woven fabric had a water repellent finish and the complementary detailing between their menswear and womenswear outfits.
