The new reality dating television series that is currently the talk of the town, Seven Year Switch, is Channel Seven’s latest dating show, based on the “seven-year itch” theory.
The concept of the show involves four couples with severe relationship problems, being split from their partner and paired with another partner for two weeks.
Psychologists, Jo Lamble and Peter Charleston, split the couples and switch their partner to match each individual with someone deemed more “like-minded” from the group.
Tim and Jackie, one of the couples on the new television series, are suffering as a result of lack of emotion in their relationship. Jackie says, “[Tim has] only ever said, ‘I love you,’ in a text message once in three-and-a-half years. I look a screenshot and kept it”
Jason and Michelle, another couple on the show, have been together for seven years and have a four-year-old son and eight-month-old baby girl, however feel that over the years they have changed and drifted apart from one another. Jason misses the old Michelle, whereby Michelle says when referring to how they used to be, “I’m never going to be that person again, though. I’ve changed, I am different.”
From lack of intimacy and affection to resentment and rejection, all four of the relationships are suffering and in dire need of a full makeover.
The newly paired couples will spend two weeks together, sharing a bed, learning to open up about their relationships and appreciate what they have with their partner back at home.
The show’s first episode gave an insight into each of the four relationships, addressing their issues, before they bid farewell to their partners to embark on their two-week switch.
This week, each person will meet their new partner and begin their two-week life swap and road to relationship recovery.
Seven Year Switch airs on Tuesday’s at 9pm on Seven
