As well as Rosemount sparkling wine and Perrier mineral water, fashionistas at Rosemount Sydney Fashion Festival (RSFF) dined on cupcakes from Ghermez, Sydney’s most sophisticated cupcake company. We talked to Ghermez’s founder, Ghazaleh Lyari, about the 5 most popular cupcakes at RSFF. We also couldn’t resist a roadtest…
RESCU: Your stall at RSFF looked ultra stylish and tempting. What were the 5 most popular cupcakes for RSFF? And did any celebs drop by?
Ghazaleh Lyari:
The most popular flavours were:
1. Rose Chocolate
2. Red Velvet
3. Strawberry
4. Dulce de Leche
5. Chocolate Mud
They were apparently a ton of celebrities stopping by at our stall on Monday night at the Rosemount Sydney Fashion Festival. I ducked out before it got busy, but my staff were telling me they gave away 24 dozen cupcakes!!!
RESCU: What are the usual bestsellers at your 3 Sydney stores?
Ghazaleh Lyari:
1. Chocolate Marshmallow
2. Rose Chocolate
3. Dulce de Leche
4. Strawberry
5. Chocolate mud
RESCU: Tell us about Ghermez’s more unique flavours?
Ghazaleh Lyari: Ghermez has flavours that you can’t find anywhere else – they are popular with many of our loyal fans who are looking for more exotic alternatives than a good plain vanilla or chocolate cake:
• Pistachio & Rose
Pistachio cake, with a splash of rose water, topped with white chocolate buttercream, and freshly ground pistachio garnish.
• Orange & Almond
Orange and almond cake (gluten free) with a splash of orange blossom. Topped with dark Belgian chocolate ganache.
• Rose Chocolate
Very moist dark Belgian chocolate cake, filled with rose water flavoured chocolate buttercream topped with dark chocolate buttercream.
• Chilli Chocolate
Very moist dark Belgian chocolate cake, filled with chilli flavoured chocolate buttercream topped with dark chocolate buttercream.
RESCU: You currently have 3 Sydney stores. But if we can’t get to Sydney, how can we sample these cupcakes? Do you deliver Australia wide?
Ghazaleh Lyari: We’ve had fans from Tasmania and Melbourne air-freight cupcakes, but the best way to enjoy them is while they’re fresh and available in our 3 stores in Sydney!
Rescu. Road-Test:
We were lucky enough to sample some Ghermez cupcakes. They were presented in an attractive red gift box, and looked almost too good to eat.
We loved all the cupcakes, but Dulce de Leche (“caramel cake, with a caramel layer on top”) was our favourite flavour. The caramel icing made us lick our plates.
Our second favourite was also the RSFF favourite, Rose Chocolate (“dark chocolate cake with rose flavoured chocolate filling and chocolate ganache”), because we’re major chocoholics.
Our third favourite flavour was White Chocolate, “white chocolate cake with white chocolate icing”, which is pictured at the top of this article.
What we love about these cupcakes is that they are made using natural ingredients, fresh fruits, and no artificial flavouring.
