Everybody loves summer but sometimes the humidity doesn’t work in our favour. When it comes to haircare and style over the warmer months, one of the biggest factors is how to fight the frizz. Here are step-by-step instructions to help you create two sweat and heat-proof styles for summer created by Philips HairCare Ambassador and multi-award winning hair stylist Lizzie Liros in her new book Celebrity Hair By Lizzie Liros.
Fishtail Braid
Step 1: Part hair on a side parting.
Step 2: Spray with a medium hold hairspray on each section before curling with a curling wand or straightener.
Step 3: Starting at the crown area, take 1-inch sectioning and wind from ends to roots.
Step 4: Pin each section with a pincurl clip.
Step 5: Only pincurl the front crown area.
Step 6: Curl ends only on remaining hair.
Step 7: Softly brush hair into a low left hand side ponytail.
Step 8: For extra thickness or length attach a hair extension around the base of the elastic.
Step 9: Split the ponytail evenly into 2 sections.
Step 10: Proceed to create a fishbone plait, fastening with an elastic.
Step 11: Take a small piece of loose hair from the ends of the plait and wrap around to hide elastic, pinning into place with a bobby pin.
Step 12: Gently stretch and loosen your fishbone plait to make it thicker and give it texture.
Step 13: Gently remove pincurl set at the crown.
Step 14: Backcomb each section to add fullness.
Step 15: Smooth any visual backcombing.
Step 16: Brush and split into 2 sections and softly create a loose rope plait.
Step 17: Rouche softly from ends to create movement.
Step 18: Tuck ends around the ponytail to finish and spray with a light finish spray to hold.
Glamorous High Ponytail
Step 1: Apply a smudge cream to dry hair to help you bring your hair into a smooth high ponytail.
Step 2: Tie hair in a high ponytail above the crown, using your tail comb to ensure the hair is smooth.
Step 3: Take small sections of hair and wind as tight as you can with a conical tong. Complete for full ponytail.
Step 4: Allow the hair to cool for 10 minutes before you continue styling.
Step 5: Using your fingertips, gently loosen the front of the ponytail base to create texture.
Step 6: Use a brush to gently stretch out the curls.
Step 7: Wrap a thin piece of hair around the base of the ponytail to hide the hair elastic.
Step 8: With a wide tooth comb, back comb roots only of the ponytail to create extra volume for your finished style.
