The British Fashion Council have named Alexa Chung their new young style ambassador and Olivia Palermo admires Duchess Catherine’s sense of style and commends her for supporting British designers.
The 28-year-old presenter – who joins cultural ambassador Laura Bailey and young ambassador Poppy Delvingne – is “proud” to have been asked to champion UK designers in her new role.
She said, “I always name London first when asked which city in the world has the best style.
“There’s something so inherently rebellious about how people naturally style themselves. Brits aren’t afraid to experiment or take risks with how they look; perhaps that’s why London has always been home to the most dynamic and daring designers in the world.
“I adore fashion and am proud that it’s now officially my job to champion those London designers – both new and established – that inspire me so much.”
The British Fashion Council (BFC) are equally thrilled to have “hugely influential” Alexa on board.
BFC chief executive Caroline Rush said, “We’re delighted to announce this role for Alexa. She is hugely influential in both the fashion industry and to the wider public, who have voted her as winner of the British Style Award at the British Fashion Awards for two years running.”
The former ‘City’ star is a big admirer of the duchess’ “timeless” sense of style and is particularly appreciative of the way she champions UK talent, both established and emerging.
Olivia said, “The duchess is a wonderful role model. She has her own sense of timeless style and it’s lovely to see her wear some of Britain’s most well-respected talent, such as Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen, and also bring awareness to younger brands like Erdem, who brings such an elegance and femininity to his designs.”
Catherine is one of just a few famous faces whose style Olivia admires as she feels most people in the public eye rely too much on being styled by other people.
She told Hello! magazine, “I find I look less to celebrities and more at models for being more fashion forward.
“Models usually dress themselves whereas a celeb might have a helping hand.”
