This mind-blowing debut, which has been compared to The Time Traveler’s Wife, revolves around a mysterious travelling circus in the 19th century.
The chapters are written from the perspectives of different characters and move between the past and present (keep a firm eye on the dates at the start of the chapters so you don’t become confused).
The plot of The Night Circus:
In 1886, the Cirque des Rêves becomes an international sensation. Open only at night, constructed entirely in black and white, it delights all its visitors. There are contortionists, performing cats, carousels and illusionists – all the attractions of an ordinary circus. But this is no conventional spectacle. This circus also has tents filled with ice, clouds and other jaw-dropping ‘illusions.’
Behind the scenes of the circus, a dangerous game is being played out by two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who, controlled by two different masters, are forced into a life-and-death duel. This ‘game’ becomes even more complicated when Celia and Marco fall in love.
