Emmy Nominations 2013
It may not be as heavy on the frocks and gossip as awards season, but nominations season is always a cause for good water cooler conversation, especially when it comes to the nomination snubs!
Yesterday we heard about the MTV VMA nominations, and last night in LA, Neil Patrick Harris and Aaron Paul announced the nominations for the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards. Kate Mara was originally supposed to read the nominations with Aaron but had flight problems so the delightful Neil Patrick Harris, who will be hosting this year’s event, stepped in instead.
The biggest news from the noms came from Netflix political drama House of Cards which was became the first ever online-only series to be nominated for a major Emmy award. The series, starring Kevin Spacey, scored a huge nine nods including Best Drama and Best Actor in a Drama.
There were plenty of regulars on the nominations list, including Breaking Bad, Downton Abbey, Mad Men, and Homeland all of which are up for the coveted Outstanding Drama Series award.
And alongside the regular nominees were a fair few regular snubs… Justified, Sons of Anarchy, True Blood, and New Girl, were all noticeably absent from the list of nominations, just as they have been in years past.
It was, however, Tatiana Maslany, of BBC America’s Orphan Black whose snub has caused the biggest reaction with international news big wigs like Huffington Post declaring the star, ‘robbed’. In the series, Maslany played seven different characters and delivered what has been called the best performance on television this year. It’s the sort of thing the academy would usually love and Maslany did receive a Critic’s Choice Award and TCA nomination so it’s a surprising overlook.
The 65th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony will take place on the 22nd of September 2013 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
Kim Kardashian on Motherhood
In a move that is completely contrary to what we expected, Kim Kardashian has been noticeably silent ever since the birth of her daughter North West earlier this year.
Now the star has taken to her blog to break the silence and let her fans know how she’s feeling about motherhood and more.
Kardashian said, “These past couple of weeks have been filled with the most exciting experiences of my life. I’m enjoying this time to fully embrace motherhood and spend time at home with my family.” She continued, “I’ve been reading all of your messages and want to thank you all for your sweet thoughts and best wishes. It truly means everything to me.”
The reality TV star has been living at mum Kris Jenner’s house with baby North and husband Kanye while renovations on her LA mansion are being finished and has somehow managed to stay out of the public eye completely. Mum Kris took to her new reality show to insist the lack of public photo ops is just due to clever planning and that her daughter has been out and about. She said, “I’m here to tell you that Kim DOES come out of the house! She’s been to the doctor, she’s been to the pediatrician, she’s been out, she’s been to dinner…”
That Kardashian home must have some secret exits because we can’t imagine sneaking past the paparazzi would be easy!
Jay Z Visits Magna Carta
Jay Z, who has just announced that the hyphen in his name has been officially dropped, has paid a visit to the Magna Carta in Salisbury Cathedral this week.
Ahead of playing live in London at the Wireless festival with Justin Timberlake, the star turned up the the cathedral completely unannounced to see the world-famous 1215 charter of English rights that inspired the name of his latest album.
Reports say Jay Z spent an hour with the Dean of Sailsbury touring the 750-year-old cathedral and it seems the Dean was charmed by the star, saying, “It was great to welcome Jay Z to Sailsbury Cathedral. He was clearly moved by seeing the original Magna Carta. He was a delightful guest and we discussed the work we seek to do here to further the cause of social justice.”
The cathedral is currently displaying the artwork for the album alongside its copy of the original Magna Carta.
