Has lace become the modern girl’s guide to fashion? If the collections this week are anything to go by the answer is decidedly, yes. No longer reserved for the wonderfully pretty, lace has become this week’s modern mistress.
Structured lace midi skirts, layered hem-lines, rock and roll shapes, modern silhouettes and of course the romantic ethereal pieces we have always adored will be filling our summer wardrobes.
So how will be we be wearing lace off the catwalk? Ginger and Smart incorporated lace into a number of looks. Firstly trousers. Team this back with a white shirt and you have sophisticated chic. Again they featured this fabric into a modern structure by playing with hemlines. The midi is a wonderful length but not all can pull it off. The way G&S have made this work is by creating an additional hem to a midi length – in lace. Sheer brilliance.
Here are some other stand out lace pieces.
Other highlights today included Toni Maticevski and Michael Lo Sordo both so different and both had us tied to our seats wanting more. Michael Lo Sordo excelled in fluid tailoring and Toni Maticevski? I’m not sure words can do this justice. Best watch the video. The man is simply brilliant.
More fashion news today included IMG announcing their e-commerce offering allowing consumers to shop directly from the runway. Once a collection has been viewed on the live stream, you click on the boutique at mbfashionweek.com/boutique and you shop directly from the runway instead of waiting to buy your favourite pieces in store months later. Perfect for those of us who love instant gratification and getting pieces from our favourite Australian designers, first.
And with that news, here ends day two of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia.
Heels off.
