Men can be hard to buy for, but with Fathers Day just around the corner, it’s time to think outside the box of socks and jocks and get Dad on the grooming train!
Now more than ever it’s ok for any guy to talk openly about their grooming routine. It started with shaving and boutique beard products, to smelling good and the purchasing of fragrances, to the good old scrub. Eventually we got our own cleansers, and now we are talking a full skin care routine and man-scaping. Amazing that we finally got there, but yes, guys and especially Dads, deserve to look their best everyday too!

New Dads, older Dads, whatever the age, they might not admit it to your face, but I bet secretly they actually do care about their appearance but don’t always know how to express it.
How many of you notice your products in the shower getting lower faster than you could use it alone? That’s right, they steal yours!
So now we know, why not gift a little grooming to your dad, or perhaps a partner. It’s all about what would work for them and their lifestyle, rather than pushing a product or grooming tool that they would never use.
Do they shave everyday? Do they have a beard or stubble they like to show? Have they ever mentioned any skin concern in conversation?
If they have never used skincare before (that we know of, or pretend not to know), then don’t rush out and buy a whole range. Gradually buy the basics (cleanser, scrubs, SPF) that they might be more used to, or like the feeling of.
In my experience with first time groomers, shaving is a great place to start. Most guys either shave, or clipper their stubble or beard to a certain length. As it is a daily to weekly part of their routine, guys are into talking about it and using a product to get it just right.
If your dad uses a razor to shave with, it can be annoying buying more and more cartridges every few weeks.
Did you know that Australians spend $230million on razors each year? Many end up as waste in landfills only after a few uses. A blunt razor is like a blunt pencil, why bin it, when you can sharpen it?
Razormate is a great gift idea as it prolongs the life of your razor, by sharpening and cleaning your razor blades after each use. This means you save money on new razor cartridges, get a closer shave each time, plus less wastage in landfills. It’s a win all round.

Now for the dads that like a bit of man-scaping (wherever that may be).
I used to have a separate face clipper to body hair clipper and it got a bit annoying. I am someone that loves to trim my own hair on the back and sides. It’s easy with the right blade size – something that may take a couple of tries to get right – plus it’s convenient as I can do it whenever suits me.
I have been known to trim my face stubble, and you never know; the body can need a little weed wacker sometimes too.
Remington have released these amazingly new small, easy to grip design, Rapid Cut clippers. The grip is amazingly easy to use and a larger trimming head means more cutting, saving time. I love the different clipper head sizes available and that it is cordless, with shower proof casing. A clipping game changer!

Male facial hair has become a bit of a trend. They are slowly getting shorter and a bit more groomed, but I think we will be seeing the man beard for a little while yet. If this is your dad or partner, why not make it better for everyone that gets up close and personal and at least make it feel and smell good, right?
Men may not say anything, as often if they have a beard they love it too much to mention any negative part of it. But a beard can get itchy on their skin, and the hairs, like head hair, can become dry, frizzy and wild.
The Jojoba Company have a 100% Natural Australian Jojoba Beard Oil, perfect to hydrate the skin, soften the beard hair and tame the facial mane. It’s non-greasy, but will definitely relieve the dreaded beard itch, plus much better for their partner that probably rather it gone.

So we’ve covered shaving and the beard. But what about our skin? Most men complain about looking fatigued – we get it, it happens – but they deserve to look refreshed, just as much as women.
There are so many products on the market for men, but if your dad or partner is new to his very own skincare range, you want it to be easy and effective, with no fuss packaging.
I found the new PC4Men – from Paula’ Choice – a great range which looks masculine and is simple and easy to use, but does have great results without breaking the budget.
From a face scrub to cleanser, daily moisturiser to shave & lip balm, the range covers all male concerns, but keeps things simple. With a few items containing SPF, guys are also covered with anti-ageing.
Visit paulaschoice.com.au for more information on each product.
We have the face covered, but a guy has to complete his look by smelling good. Men tend to stick to something they like, with the ‘If it ‘aint broke, why fix it?’ mentality.
But there are so many moods and emotions that a fragrance can bring out for a guy. Perhaps it’s an everyday watery freshness, or a greener scent for a sports feel. But I think we should spice it up and always gift a scent that is a bit more sexy, no matter what the age.
Acqua Di Gio from Giorgio Armani has been an iconic mens fragrance in Australia for years. It suits many guys with its fresh scent and is not to hard on the nose, day or night. But like everything, sometimes you need a boost (a sexy one) and the juice of Acqua Di Gio has done just that with the launch of Profumo. Deeply sophisticated and intensely masculine, it’s an ode to mineral freshness as sea meets rock, with key notes of Marine, Incense and Patchouli.

So whether it is scent, beard control or boosting skin freshness, we have dad covered this fathers day. Remember, just because he doesn’t use a product now, doesn’t mean he wouldn’t if it was given to him. Sometimes a little hint works a treat!
Happy Fathers Day, dads!
