Adding a completely different and new way of brightening up any ensemble, white on white layers popped up as one of the to-come trends on the runways at Fashion Week Australia.
Yet whilst this trend may look fresh and simple, it can in fact be quite tricky to master as wearing white all over, when not layered and styled properly, can easily go from fabulous modern chic to awkward 90s blunder.
Which is why here at Rescu. we bring you our top style tips on how to best approach this cleansing chic trend, featured an abundance of white on white colouring,
Tip 1: Wear all white looks with neutral accessories
Teaming an all white ensemble with nude or black accessories in particular will dramatise the overall effect without detracting from it.
Remember this trend is a cleansing break from the mixed prints and bright neon hues dominating this season’s fashion so avoid brightly coloured or multicoloured accessories, as they will distract from the simplicity.
This being said, if you limit yourself to one bright coloured statement piece, for example an electric blue clutch, can still work well, but moderation is key!
Tip 2: Use varying shades of white
The Seamless blend of off-white, stark white and even throwing in some cream is the easiest way to prevent the look from feeling all too over the top and one block note.
Tip 3: Mix Materials
The mix of proportions and materials (sheer, leather, cotton, mesh etc.) help break up the crisp monochromatic colour palette, giving the overall outfit its visually interesting and modern look as opposed to simply looking like an awkward block of stark white!
Go for multiple, lightweight layers in varied shades of white.
Tip 4: Keep it casual
Sometimes it’s easy to get carried away with the classic elegant appeal of white that we instinctively dress up white styles. Yet even the most basic all white combinations can be the most striking and effective when it comes to pulling off this look with an effortlessly chic vibe.
Try just teaming a sheer or mesh white singlet with shorts or a pair of white summer jeans, cropped or rolled up to ankle-length. Going back to basics is key.
Always opt for mixing the sizes of your white pieces too, this way it will appear more causal and effortless. For example, if you have tight white jeans on make sure to go for a looser flowing top as opposed to a tight tank top.
Tip 5: Be wary of over layering your whites
Keeping it simple is essential for this all white trend to work so although you need to mix different white pieces together to achieve the desired look it never ends well to over mix.
Limit yourself to three white pieces max and if you’re not confident enough to throw three into the mix just yet, build yourself up to the all white style. For example team a basic white oversized tee with a white structured blazer and then break it up with denim cut off shorts.
Or just simplify the white equation so you only have white jeans and a white singlet. This will help to eliminate any feelings you might have of trying too hard to carry off the look.
