If you’re thinking about getting your breasts enlarged, there are many important things to know before you go under the knife. Here, Sydney based Plastic Surgeon Dr Mark Kohout discusses breast augmentation surgery, and things to consider before you go ahead.
With so many celebrities opting for breast augmentation and the ever present pressure for the perfect body, an increasing amount of women are choosing to have surgery to boost not only their assets, but also their confidence.
Breast enhancement surgery is one of the most commonly performed aesthetic surgical procedures. A well-performed operation can give a lasting, natural-looking bust, and is a well proven procedure with excellent results and high satisfaction rates. But as with any surgery, there are a number of important things to consider before you go ahead.
Deciding to have breast augmentation surgery is a decision that should be made with careful consideration. The procedure can be performed on a woman of any age, but only once the breasts are fully developed. A good candidate for breast enlargement is someone who is emotionally mature, understands her personal motivations, and has realistic goals for the procedure.
That’s why it’s imperative, when you’ve made the decision to have breast enhancement surgery, to choose a reputable surgeon you feel completely comfortable and at ease with. In addition, it’s essential to select an appropriate implant that will compliment your body shape and give you a well-proportioned, natural look. This should be discussed at length with your surgeon until you are completely happy with your decision.
Is breast augmentation right for me?
Two different circumstances most frequently create an interest in surgical breast enlargement. The first involves congenital underdevelopment or an imbalance in the amount of naturally existing breast tissue relative to the other body measurements, such as hip circumference and height. In this instance, there may be problems with breast asymmetry or overall shape.
The second situation is caused by natural loss of breast volume, which may follow significant weight loss or pregnancy. The breast often takes on a collapsed or deflated appearance, and clothing no longer fits well around the chest.
One or more of the following feelings or conditions may indicate that you are a suitable candidate for breast augmentation:
- You feel your breasts are too small
- Clothes that fit well around your hips are often too large at the bust
- You feel self-conscious wearing a bikini or tight-fitting top
- Your breasts have become smaller and have lost their firmness after having children
- Weight loss has dramatically changed the size and shape of your breasts
- One of your breasts is noticeably smaller than the other
