Christmas is the time to shine so make sure your clothes puts you in the spotlight, whatever the occasion.
Celebrity stylist Sophia Banks-Coloma offers advice to ensure your wardrobe draws attention to yourself for all the right reasons this festive season.
Think glam power dressing, using Victoria Beckham’s style for inspiration. As they say, ‘Dress for the job you want, not the one you have’, so go for elegant and tasteful styling that screams ‘you should promote me.’
Avoid anything too short or revealing, as this will not present you in a professional light. You want to impress your workmates, not flaunt your body.
Go wild. Try a bright or printed maxi dress in silk, accessorised with gold cuffs, to work the goddess look, or go for a shorter dress in a vivid, bright colour, paired with a contrasting brightly coloured shoe.
If you find it hard to go past your little black dress, go for glitter shoes to liven up your outfit, or introduce green or red jewellery to your look.
The party season is the perfect opportunity to have fun and be a little daring with your style, so try anything and everything, just be sure you don’t end up looking like a Christmas decoration!
Opt for a pair of super chic pants coupled with a classy top. I recently styled Erika Christensen in this very look and she loved it! Alternatively you can never go wrong with an elegant power fitting dress in the style of Amber Heard (pictured wearing Amanda Wakeley).
The coloured cropped pant and fitted top is a great look this season and offers a nice alternative to the usual skirt or dress choice.
A bold coloured fitted dress cut to just below the knee is an elegant option which can be funked up with some knock-out, brightly coloured shoes.
The maxi dress in wild bright colours or prints is great for Aussies to wear over Christmas as they can be extremely lightweight and cool for balmy evenings. Plus, it will look great paired with some cute flats so you keep you feet happy, too!
Just because you’re in Oz, doesn’t mean you can’t have a white Christmas. Go for the all white look with either pants and a top, or pairing a white dress with some fluoro shoes to make the outfit ‘pop’.
Make sure your outfit’s the perfect match, even if your date isn’t. Try matching the colour of your dress with your shoes for the one-colour look á la Britt Robertson (Scream 4, The Family Tree) who I styled in a tonal blue ensemble (Bec & Bridge dress and Steve Madden shoes) for the premiere of her new show ‘The Secret Circle’.
A coloured heel. Try a metallic gold or bronze with a super slick dress.
Glitter accessories. Follow the miu miu trend by adding some bright Wizard of Oz style shoes to your look – sparkly reds, greens and silvers are great colours for the festive season.
I always say that whenever you find a great dress, buy it… so start shopping now!
Bold blue, emerald green and red are all hot colours to try this season – try to wean yourself away from the classic little black dress and have fun with colour.
