Yearning for a natural-looking, brighter appearance? RESCU’s cosmetic surgery expert Dr Mark Kohout has all your options, whether surgical or more natural.
One of the most common and most visible signs of aging amongst women is the loss of elasticity in the skin surrounding the eyes. Whether caused by a combination of sun damage and natural aging, or an inherited genetic feature, women of any age or lifestyle can be affected.
Thanks to advancing technologies, there are many ways to eliminate these unwelcome signs. The good news is that most are relatively quick and pain-free.
So what are your options?
The non-sugical approach:
Surgery to some may seem like a daunting prospect. If this sounds familiar perhaps a non-surgical procedure is more suitable for you. Popular methods include the anti-wrinkle treatment, a recommended practise created and tailored to suit your lifestyle needs.
The anti-wrinkle treatment has the most beneficial effect on areas such as frown lines between the eyebrows and crows feet wrinkles at the corners of the eyes. This treatment is relatively pain free and involves several small injections of a highly purified product, such as Botox, designed to block muscle action. This minimises wrinkles involved with the frowning action.
The treatment takes approximately 15 minutes to complete depending on the problem area, and effects can be visible within 3 days or up to 2 to 3 weeks. Post-procedure, the underlying facial muscles continue to contract normally and the results can last between a 3 to 6 month period. As a general rule, the more treatments you have the longer the results will last.
The surgical approach:
One of the most effective ways of creating a more permanent youthful look is to invest in a surgical procedure to directly remove any skin that may be unwanted or excessive. In this instance, an endoscopic brow lift is ideal and can be teamed with eyelid surgery for maximum effect.
Heavy or sagging brows can give the appearance of drooping upper eyelids, making you look worried, or appear older than you are. Advances in cosmetic technologies now means that scarring with this procedure is minimal thanks to the use of keyhole surgery. Insertion of a camera ensures that the surgeon can accurately and skilfully lift the tissues of the forehead and the brow to move the skin back to its original position, rewinding the effects that time and loss of elasticity has had on your appearance.
Obviously everyone is different, so a consultation prior to treatment is recommended, to ensure the solution is tailored specifically to your needs. Results take several weeks to visibly appear but the benefits can be life changing.
The second surgical option available is the eyelift, otherwise known as Blepharoplasty. This is a relatively quick and simple procedure designed to correct all hallmarks of aging eyes. The operation removes excess, loose skin from both the upper eyelid, the bulges under the eye and the inner eyelid. The procedure usually takes a day and the results are a tighter, more youthful appearance.
