Just because the temperature drops, your glamour factor doesn’t have to! It’s time for a little winter fashion. Yes, yes… I know you think the Winter months are for blobbing around on the couch in your trackies and Uggs dunking Tim Tams. Or does your winter fashion wardrobe equate to boring old jeans, drab colours, heavy layers and clunky boots?
Instead of channelling a frumpy Michelin Man, think … stylish James Bond type vixens expertly skiing the slopes in faux fur hat, liquid tight black pants, leather gloves and cinched in spy coats… oozing glamour with every icy pout. And not a Snuggie in sight.
Winter fashion is so easy to glamorise. So put down your Tim Tam, ditch the puffy parka and read on … as I show you how to ramp up the glamour factor from Brrrr to Ahgrrrr this Winter.
Alex Perry‘s Top Winter Fashion Trends:
60’s Retro Chic
Continue the colour blocking fun with shades to brighten dreary days in tangerine, mustard and ruby. Look for simple shapes in A-line shift dresses, full circled swing coats and short sharp miniskirts. Accessorise with mod style ankle boots, cats eye glasses and chunky bangles.
Masculine tailored “Luxe Tux”
YSL has long inspired Le Smoking androgynous tuxedo look, and this season it has an equestrian edge. Look for leather trim, piping, panels and inserts. Keep it crisp in black and white, with black skinny pants and a white soft boyfriend shirt. Tailor the look with a black blazer and roll up the sleeves. Add a knee high black boot, man style watch and saddle shoulder bag for weekends. Dazzle for evening with a sequinned vest, sheer black lace blouse, and jet black stones that twinkle alongside icy diamonds.
Printed Mayhem
Don’t wait till Summer to bloom into florals. Floral prints can be found on everything from pants, shift dresses, scarves, handbags and tailored jackets. Likewise bold graphic laser prints. Clash prints if you’re feeling a little crazy.
Coats
The Trench is the perennial answer to super chic and practical Winter glamour. It’s a classic staple. If you don’t own one, get one now. Swing coats are another timeless classic, so “on trend” this Winter. Keep the chill at bay by choosing a pop colour of emerald green, cobalt blue or ruby red.
Accessories
Tis the season to accessorise! Hats, gloves, scarves, faux furs… the options are endless and plentiful. Pile them high for styled up chic. Inject a pop of neon colour with a bright scarf, satchel or gloves. Combine textures for maximum effect – satin with matt, leather with knits, denim with silk. Fur vests inject a cosy Boho chic to any outfit; leather wrist length gloves infuse ladylike glamour. If you can’t invest in big ticket items this Winter, accessories will add instant glamour to that tired old black coat.
Pants
Over denim jeans? Looking for the new pant? Say hello to Ponte. The Ponte Pant is your new BFF (for this season anyhow). Ponte is a heavy jersey fabric that sucks you in. Ponte pants are like corsets for your thighs. They have a polished tailored look, but feel almost as comfy as leggings. Some styles have panelled detailing that flatter the thigh. Or look for ones with leather inserts for rock chick chic.
Shoe Style
Apparently weekend shoes are supposed to be *ahem*… flat. Not really my thing, but if you MUST wear flats then get yourself a pair of equestrian style knee high black boots. They add sleek polish to any look. Now if you can cope with a heel, (breathes sigh of relief) go for an ankle boot with a stacked high heel.
Evening Elegance
Stumped on what to wear for an evening event during cooler months? Dust off your fave LBD, and don’t worry if it’s sleeveless. All you need then is a fabulous faux fur stole to throw over you as you dash from car to heated venue. Think Marilyn Monroe and old school movie star glamour. Or if you really need to make an entrance, go for the hot option of the moment – the cape. Look for a bright colour, or a sumptuous texture but make sure it’s got some volume and movement. A shimmery sparkle is a must for evening dressing – trail a blizzard of ice for arctic allure. Go for head to toe sequins, encrusted shoes & handbag, bejewelled earrings and Blinged up bangles.
Hot enough for you now?
No marshmallows required.
