Lipstick is one beauty product that every woman wears or has worn at least in one stage in life. It is the quick fix, pick me up, go-to product for so many, but are we wearing the right shade for our skin tone?
Gone are the days of matching shoes, bag, dress and lipstick, its all about what works with your skin tone, what can be a contrasting lift and a little trend in there too.
With the ‘pop’ lip being in trend for so many seasons, so many more women are being experimental with lip shades, but we should all think before applying. Watch this video on how to choose the best lip colour for you and read the take-away tips below so you’re well equipped next time you hit the beauty counter.
Know Your Skin Tone.
Are you a fair skin (pink base) or are you an olive skin (yellow base)? Pink base skins normally have concerns with redness or pink tones present through their skin, often they need to tone this down.
Olive skins usually say they look dull as they lack colour being a yellow undertone.
MB PRO TIP: If you are unsure, check the back of wrists. If your veins are blue in colour, you are a cool/fair skin tone and require summery shades to contrast, warming you up, plus toning down pink shades present.
If they are a green shade, this means you are warm/olive and need a bit of colour to brighten the skin, normally in a blue base undertone to avoid looking dull.
Know Your Colour.
Most shades are easy to see whether they are cool or warm, if unsure, place it next to a colour you are sure about on your hand, this will give you a better look at the true shade.
Fair Skin can look even and fresh with; Coral, peach, orange, warm beige, brick, orange base red, warm rose – Anything Summery
Olive Skin can be lifted with; Cool beige, rose, pink, fushcia, true reds, wine, plum – Anything Blue Base
Not every shade suggested will suit everyone has outfit/hair colour can play a big part, but it’s a great start to think what your skin needs more than your outfit.
MB PRO TIP: Don’t forget, if your lips are your focus, play down your eyes and vice versa if your eyes are heavily defined or made up, wear a softer lip. Lip shades can make or break a look, so get it right with these matching to your skin tone tips!
