Just as she did at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week, on Friday night Camilla blew us away with her Babylon collection at Rosemount Sydney Fashion Festival, and Rescu. was there at the Town Hall in Sydney to witness this vivacious collection.
Camilla’s unique aesthetic is all about the organic mixing of rich colours on beautiful silk fabrics that drape exquisitely. Beginning with an Avatar-inspired model to emphasise the dreamlike nature of her collection, we were slowly moved through a series of flowing dresses, shawls, tops, kaftans and pants that were as elegant as they were bold.
The collection oozed summer and nature was clearly the muse. Flowing silhouettes with prints took centre stage and were a feast for the eyes. Leaf prints, leopard prints, zebra prints, water, and flowers, were all reinvented through a bold colour palette. Reds, blues, greens, yellows and pinks worked in harmony to make a bright, bold and truly beautiful effect.
When interviewed backstage, Camilla explained that her one-size-fits-all collection is “a celebration of women. No women should ever have to buy clothes with a size ‘L’ on it. These are clothes that any one of any size or age can wear.” Asked about her inspiration for the collection, she enthused, “it’s really about going back to childhood where you have a vivid sense of imagination.” And vivid it was indeed.
The originality of Camilla’s designs makes her a standout, not only for their beauty, but also for their ability to bring high-end design to real women. And proving that her one size really does fit all, some real-sized models were a welcome addition to the runway.
The fashion festival really is an event for the public, and Camilla’s stunning collection is evidence that every woman really can indulge in high fashion. Met with a roaring applause from a crowd that included So You Think You Can Dance’s cool choreographer Nacho Pop, and former model and TV personality Annalise Braakensiek, Camilla had clearly captured our imagination.
