Asher Keddie is the Pavlova of Australian prime time, delightful, delicious, and an absolutely Aussie favourite. Her appeal as Offspring’s Nina Proudman is entrenched in modern day popularity, and we’ve laughed and cried as she’s found love, lost love and tripped over her own skirt doing both. Through it all, Asher has also transformed within her personal life, recently marrying for the second time. Here we look at what makes her tick, what keeps her grounded and the style that remains her staple.
Asher is not one to flash too much flesh, nor will you ever find her gallivanting in garish gowns. Her style is extremely streamlined, sometimes suprising, and always contemporary. But it’s her Offspring alter ego that has caused Pinterest to explode the most. The flowing, long dresses, the biker jackets, the layered scarves and the ever present boots – all in a mish mash of textures and tones that just work – has seen bloggers and style-lovers go banana’s over the marriage of elegance and edge. Asher admits she loves Nina’s style also, but her sartorial choices prove more streamlined, with favourite designers including Scanlan and Theodore, Toni Maticevski and J’Aton –who created her unforgettable 2014 leather ensemble.
BEAUTY:
Asher is the epitome of fresh faced. Positively glowing onscreen and off, she is so au fait with her red carpet appearances that she is known to do her hair and makeup herself. Her cornflower hair is often pulled back from her face in wispy waves within a pony tail or bun, skin is always dewy and natural – most likely with an organic foundation option and cheeks are tinted – not rouged – with a cream product. Eyes and lips are kept glossy with this girl, accentuating the luminosity she emanates. Not to mention confidence. “”If you feel good, you will look good,” she has said, recently. “That’s all it takes.”
And some great genes too, if that skin is anything to go by. Nina’s complexion is always the hero due to its sheer radiance, and there is no denying that even if she was born with it, she nurtures it daily as Asher has noted that her three keys to looking healthy and radiant are eating unprocessed foods, drinking lots of water, and getting her hands dirty.
WELLBEING:
Asher is a big fan of the outdoors, preferring to keep consistently active throughout her day, rather than allocate one hour within the gym. The nature lover is also a vegetarian and has followed a clean, mostly organic diet for some time. However, she notes that this has evolved subconsciously; saying in one interview that eating healthily is “not something I choose as a form of denial. I just feel so much better when I eat this way. It’s something that my body wants.”
Having trained as a ballerina right up to dislocating her knee at the age of 14 before her Australian Ballet School audition, things turned out for the best in hindsight for this actress. But her eternally optimistic aura and her rising star have both come simultaneously with maturity, she notes. “I’ve learnt to take care of my head and my heart and body,” since her 20s, she has said.
And more recently, her heart has taken an even fuller form thanks to her new husband – artist Vincent Fantauzzo – and his son. “I have a beautiful stepson in my life who lives with us and I am eternally grateful that he’s come into my life, I just adore him,” she has said, adding that she is open to having children, but is blissful nonetheless.
