David Jones Backstage Spring/Summer 2014
Tonight some of Australia’s biggest names in modelling will be strutting the David Jones catwalk wearing the latest from our most notable designers. This afternoon the Rescu. team took a peek backstage to give you the lowdown on makeup magic, amazing hairstyles and what the hottest models have to say about what is set to be an unforgettable evening!
While the main event may not be until later tonight, there was preparation aplenty going on backstage at David Jones’ flagship Elizabeth Street store. Dressing room upon dressing room was buzzing with Aveda hairdressers and shu uemura makeup artists, readying a slew of models for tonight’s Poolside Glamour show. Level Seven of the David Jones’ store was being transformed into a glamorous wonderland for the spectacular show ahead, and smelled of summer time fruits thanks to the scrumptious Glasshouse candles that were placed absolutely everywhere! In case anyone is in doubt about what season we’re coming into, effervescent fuschia flowers were to be found everywhere- curling around the bars, on the entry way to the grand ballroom and in huge and magnificent arrangements as far as the eye could see.

Rescu. founder and editor Bahar Etminan had a chat to Aveda’s backstage team about the breathtaking beehives they’ve created for the event. Surrounded by a mist of hairspray, we stood shoulder to shoulder with Aveda’s talented team of hairstylists, each prepping an identical beehive for the ladies, and sleek gelled back looks for the gentlemen. Using Samantha Harris as a model, they guided us through how to create a similar look at home. The beehive set off the luxurious retro poolside vibe of the show to perfection. Make sure you tune into Rescu. TV in the coming days for Bahar’s chat with Samantha about how she keeps her locks so luscious.
Next, it was time to meet the phenomenally beautiful Jessica Gomes, who has recently taken over the role of David Jones ambassador from Miranda Kerr. With tonight being her first time walking for the department store, Jessica was the epitome of calm and collected as she talked beauty and fashion with Bahar. We quizzed Jessica on everything from tips on how to achieve her pared back makeup style, to the exciting preparation for one of the biggest nights of her career. Graceful, poised and of course so beautiful, Jessica is sure to take over the reins- or should we say heels- of Miranda with the greatest of ease!

Since winning Australia’s Next Top Model, Montana Cox has gone from strength to strength, and when we met the down-to-earth beauty today she seemed at the top of her game. Strong, assured and charming (and dressed in a enviably gorgeous Josh Goot number), Montana spoke to us about how it feels to be walking for David Jones and why Summer is her favourite season. Naming walking for Chanel and being dressed by Karl Lagerfeld as one of her career highlights, our chat with Montana today was just further proof that she’s on her way to the big time.
What is a fashion show without killer makeup? Tonight’s looks will be channelling the brights of Summer and the blooms of Spring with a dewy complexion and vivacious yellow eye makeup. Our resident beauty expert Michael Brown was on hand amid all the hustle and bustle of backstage to discuss the looks for the evening with shu uemura creative director Kakuyasu Uchiide. According to Uchiide – who has travelled all the way from Japan to create the stunning looks for tonight-, bright makeup is on the cards for the upcoming Spring Summer seasons. We were also treated to a rehearsal for the main event tonight (no-one wants to be the girl who fell in her heels!), and boy, did David Jones deliver! White-on-white, monochrome and of course swimsuits took centre stage, and prints are set to be huge this summer. With looks from Australian fashion luminaries Alex Perry , Camila, Josh Goot and Ginger and Smart among others, we can say without a doubt that we’re in for a long, hot, stylish summer!
